"Sandwani" Phase 6

Phase 6 of "Sandhwani 2019/20" was held in FGS Auditorium in College House on 26th of February 2020 ,with the aim of providing mental relaxation to the cleaning staff of University of Colombo. We would like to confer our sincere appreciation to Mrs.Shyamalee Perera, Visharada Harshana Dissanayake and to all the committee members of sandhwani who committed to make the event a success.

Talented Leos on Stage

Elation 2020 is a talent search initiated for Leos of Sri Lanka for the second consecutive time with the prime motive of creating the perfect platform for Leos to showcase their talents. The Preliminary round of Elation 2020 was held on 25th of January 2020 from 8.00 a.m. onwards at D. S. Senanayake College, Colombo. Two judge panels consisting of experts on various fields namely, Mrs. kalpana Kavindi, Mr. Sachinda Dulanja, Mrs. W. A. D. G. S. Dissanayake, Ms. Krishadi Ranathunge, Mrs. Ruchira Dissanayake, and Mrs. Padmini Gamage were present to evaluate the performances of Leos. After an unbiased decision given by the judge panels, top 15 performances out of a total 78 participants were selected to the Finals. The Grand Finale will be held during the month of March where best of the best will be crowned as the Elation 2020 champion.

Alert 3.0 අපේක්ෂා

Alert 3.0, අපේක්ෂා was held with the aim of giving the children of the pediatric cancer unit of the Apeksha Hospital,  a different experience apart from their daily routine of treatments and therapies. Cancer is not just a physical illness, it can have a profound psychological impact and people expect to receive both physical and emotional support when they need it. The researches show that too often people are left in the dark about cancer’s impact on mental health. But if people are given the right support at the right time they would have greater control over their emotional well-being as they go through cancer. Therefore phase one was executed on 28th of January 2020 at 2.00 pm. First we slightly decorated the auditorium and every child was offered a balloon at the entrance. After welcoming all the children at the hospital, their parents and the club members by the chairperson the event was started. As the first item, our music team played songs for their requests. Project Sahurda Yathra

The project ‘Sahurda Yathra’ organized by the Leo Club of University of Colombo was initiated under the category of Helping hand to Differently Abled. The project was implemented in three phases by aiming the needs like provide enjoyment, develop facilities of the surrounding, enhance the living style of the differently abled community, avoid discrimination, change the perception of employers and provide medical incentives of different types of differently abled people. Phase 1 The first phase of the project was conducted on 07 th of January 2020 at Diri Daru Piyasa, Panadura premises. The programme was started with a cleanup of the surrounding. Thereafter a crafts competition was held with the aim of enhancing the lifestyle of the children in Diri Daru Piyasa.   Moreover, we arranged an opportunity to have face painting for the children. Fifth phase of the Project "Sandhwani" was successfully completed

The fifth phase of Sandhwani was held at Parakrama Vidyala, Panagoda on 28th of January with the aim of enhancing mental health and providing an entertaining musical hour for the students. Due to the competitiveness in the education system in Sri Lanka children are suffering from mental pressure. Music is an efective medicine which can give a mental relaxation and to identify their skills and abilities. Through Sandhwani we were able to identify hidden talents and personalities of children and to develop their mental health. Also we encouraged them to balance their studies and other leisure activities.We would like to grant our sincere gratitude to Mrs.Shyamalee Perera who conducted music therapy program and to all the committee members of sandhwani who gave their immense support to make the event successful .
