Happy Hearts
A celebration of joy & inclusion
On the 5th of October 2025 the
Leo Club of University of Colombo organized a heartfelt Children’s Day project
titled ‘Happy Hearts’ at WP/K/Sri Chandrasekara Special school, Horethuduwa,
Moratuwa. The event which began at 10;30 AM, was planned with immense love and care
to bring smiles and happiness to the wonderful children of the school. With the
spirit of service at its core, this project was not only a celebration of
Children’s Day but also a powerful reminder of how small acts of kindness can
create meaningful impact in the lives of others. The Leos dedicated their time
and effort to make the children feel valued, accepted and loved all while
creating an atmosphere of warmth, joy and genuine human connection.
The day’s activities were filled with excitement and vibrate energy. Children were encouraged to take the stage and sing, dance and showcase their talents. One of the most touching moments of the event was when a Leo of our very own Club performed live music, singing and playing the guitar – creating a musical atmosphere that deeply moved everyone present. The school main hall was soon filled with laughter and cheerful music, as the children enjoyed classic group games such as Hat passing, engaging not only their bodies but also their hearts and minds. These games weren’t just for fun; they were a chance for children to feel seen, appreciated and celebrated. Prizes were given to the winners, which brought even more happiness and excitement. As part of the celebration, we also treated the children to refreshments providing a sweet moment of delight during the joyful day.
At the conclusion of the event, every child
at the school received a thoughtful gift – a token of love and appreciation
from the club. These gifts were not just material items but a gesture that
symbolized the club’s commitment to inclusion, support and compassion. Adding
even more value to the project was the presence of Leo Thenura Nemhan, the 1st
vice president of the Leo Club of SLIIT, whose participation emphasized the
unity and celebration among Leo Clubs across the district. The project ‘Happy
Hearts’ was a beautiful success driven by the dedication of young volunteers
who believe in making a difference. As we reflect on this joyful day, we are
reminded that service is not just about giving- it's about connecting,
understanding and uplifting. The Leo Club of University of Colombo is proud to
continue its journey of services, one happy heart at a time.
