On the 20th and 21st of April 2026, our team proudly carried out the third phase of the “WISADAMU” project an initiative focused on providing free legal support to prisoners. This phase mainly aimed at giving legal advice to individuals who are often overlooked within the justice system, while continuing our effort to promote fair and equal access to justice. The programme began on the 20th of April, when our team visited both the Colombo Magazine Prison and the Colombo Remand Prison. We continued our work on the 21st at the Welikada Prison complex. These visits were organized with the support of the Legal Aid Commission of Colombo, whose guidance and experience played an important role in making this programme successful. As in previous phases, our team was divided into groups to manage the consultations effectively. Leo Movement Reaches New Heights Through Sports   Leo Club of University of Colombo made history on April 9, 2026, by organising the first-ever invitational weightlifting championship in the Leo movement’s history. Held at the University’s Department of Physical Education, Leo Infinity - Phase 2: Leo Sports Fiesta 2026 brought together a community of dedicated athletes and distinguished leaders. The event served as a prestigious platform for teams from the University of Colombo, University of Kelaniya, University of Ruhuna, and University of Sabaragamuwa, featuring approximately 60 male and female lifters competing across 15 weight categories. A Voice of Service Through Media The Leo 360 project, conducted by the Public Relations Directorate of Leo Club of the University of Colombo, is a dynamic initiative aimed at expanding the reach and impact of Leo activities across multiple media platforms. Designed to raise awareness and strengthen the connection between the Leo movement and society, this project was successfully executed in three impactful phases radio, television and print media. Spreading Awareness Through Radio The first phase of Leo 360 was launched through a radio programme at the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation premises. The programme was broadcast on the Swedishiya Sewaya channel at 9.00 a.m. and 10.00 a.m., reaching a wide and diverse audience across the country. This phase was designed to empower selected elders engaged in small scale businesses while also rising awareness among younger generations through the distribution of informative leaflets about the importance of elder care and social responsibility. Project ආරක්ෂා Bus Repair Project: Phase 06 The Leo Club of University of Colombo proudly marks the successful completion of Project Araksha, a six-phase community service initiative dedicated to enhancing the safety and reliability of Sri Lanka’s public transportation system. Thirtha – Phase 01: Mathru   On March 10, 2026, Leo Club of University of Colombo carried out the first phase of its signature project Thirtha , titled Mathru , with the guidance of the Oruwala Lions Club at the MOH Clinic in Maningala Nattandiya, conducted from 10.00 a.m. onwards. This initiative focused on supporting pregnant mothers by addressing both their physical and mental well-being. This phase was organized with the coordination of the Divisional Secretariate Office in Nattandiya and under the valuable guidance of MOH Nattandiya, Dr. Ajith Hemantha, who played a key role in identifying the Maningala area as a suitable location for the project. With his continuous support and coordination, the team successfully obtained permission from the RDHS Office in Puttalam, which also provided details of 30 pregnant mothers in need of assistance. Second phase of the Safe Step Project  On the 3rd of March 2026, from 8.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. Leo Club of University of Colombo successfully completed the second phase of the Safe Step Project " safe youth " at KE/Daranagama National School, Siyambalape. The ‘safe steps’ project is a comprehensive three- stages initiative aimed at minimizing crimes and accidents in our society, this phase focused on cybercrime and self- defense, especially for grade 11, 12 and 13 school students. In an era where safety concerns both physical and digital are at an all-time high, taking proactive steps to educate our youth is more important than ever. Our second phase was specifically designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the modern world safely.
