Leo Tree Plantation Challenge 2026 - Season 7

Where Every Sapling Holds a Promise

On October 4, 2026, from 10.30 a.m. onwards, Leo Club of University of Colombo, under Leo District 306 D6 Sri Lanka & Maldives, successfully conducted the Leo Tree Plantation Challenge 2026 - Season 7 in the surrounding area of Moratuwa Lunawa Lagoon. With the participation of over 40 club members, the initiative was carried out with a clear purpose to take action against the growing challenge of global warming and encourage greater care for our environment.

Global warming is one of the major environmental challenges facing our planet today. Rising temperatures, changing weather patterns, and the loss of natural areas remind us of the need to take action at both global and community levels. Trees play an important role in maintaining a healthy environment by absorbing carbon dioxide, releasing oxygen, supporting biodiversity, and helping to keep natural areas healthy. With this understanding, the tree plantation initiative was organized as a simple but meaningful step towards addressing the effects of global warming.

This initiative was also part of an International Mega Club Twinning Project initiated by the Dhaka Parijat Dynamic (136844) Leo Club, District 315B1, Bangladesh. The project brought together 250 Leo Clubs from 22 countries, allowing young people from different parts of the world to take part in a shared environmental effort. Through this global challenge, a local activity at Lunawa Lagoon became part of a much wider movement led by young people who believe that protecting the planet is a responsibility we all share.

As part of the challenge, more than 20 saplings of various tree species around the Lunawa Lagoon area. Each sapling planted represented a practical step towards increasing green cover and supporting the natural environment of the area. Although the trees will take time to grow, the effort made on this day is a reminder that caring for the environment requires us to think not only about today, but also about the years ahead.

The participation of more than 40 Leo members made the program a meaningful experience of teamwork and service. Members worked together in carrying out the planting activity and shared the responsibility of contributing to a cause that affects everyone. The event showed how young people can turn environmental awareness into action within their own communities.

The initiative carried a simple message: “Be a Part of the Change. Plant Today, Save Tomorrow.” Fighting global warming is not something that can be achieved through one project alone. It requires continued effort, responsible choices, and the willingness of individuals and communities to play their part. Tree planting is one small step, but when similar actions are taken by people across communities and countries, they can help build a stronger culture of environmental responsibility.

Being part of a challenge that connected 250 Leo Clubs across 22 countries also reminded us that environmental issues know no borders. Whether an action begins in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, or any other part of the world, the purpose remains the same-to create a healthier planet for the generations to come.

In conclusion, the Leo Tree Plantation Challenge 2026 - Season 7 was more than a tree-planting activity. It was an opportunity for Our Club to take direct action in the fight against global warming while joining hands with Leos around the world. With more than 40 members taking part and over 20 saplings planted at Lunawa Lagoon, the project marked a small but meaningful contribution towards a better environment.

As the saplings planted on October 4th continue their journey from young plants to growing trees, may they remind us that every positive change begins with an action. It’s time to come together, take meaningful action, and make a positive impact on our planet.

Where every sapling holds a promise - a promise to care for our Earth today and for the generations of tomorrow.
