TOWARDS EMINENCE WITH PRIDE - The 7th Annual Installation Ceremony
Let us re-energize, shall we?
The 24th of October 2021, was the most anticipated and significant day in the history of Leo Club of University of Colombo. Do you have any idea why? Let's just say the wait was over. Now let us move towards eminence with pride to begin the new era of leoism with the 7th annual installation ceremony. You know that when it's time to start something new and it is essential to trust in the magic of a fresh start. Guess what, this is the First ever Hybrid Installation of UOC LEOS. The physical ceremony took place at Hotel Royal Grand Paradise, Kalaniya while the Zoom platform was opened to others concerning the existing health guidelines due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
On this special occasion, let us extend a warm greeting to all of the guests.
The physical ceremony started with the welcoming of the chief guest, guest of honour, and other special guests. Lion Panthaka Dabare PMJF PMAF, Second Vice District Governor, Lions District 306 C1 was the Chief Guest, and Leo Mandakini Kariyawasam, District President, Leo District 306 C1 was the Guest of Honour for this significant day. Senior Professor Chandrika N. Wijeyaratne, Vice-chancellor of University of Colombo; Leo Lion Dilshan Peiris, Multiple District President, Leo Multiple District 306 and Leo Kojitha Gamlath, District Vice President, Leo District 306 C1 Sri Lanka were the Special Guests who made the occasion more glorious and remarkable.
The outgoing leadership marked the incoming of a new era.
After that, the national anthem was sung by all the participants with the reminder of "a nation's culture resides in the hearts and the soul of its people". Following a welcome speech by Leo Priyadarshani Eric, the Event Chairperson as well as the Club Assistant Treasurer, the sixth outgoing Club President Leo Nipuna Sandaruwan addressed the audience, appreciating the previous year's successes and accomplishments. The induction of new members began emphasising that "the strength of the club is each member and the strength of each member is the club". Following the induction of new club members, the installation of the Club's Office Bearers for the Leoistic year 2021/22 began. To take the first step in the faith of Leo Club of University of Colombo, the newly installed Executive Committee for the Leoistic year 2021/22 is now introduced as Leo Priyadarshani Eric and Leo Anuradha Sampath, the Club Assistant Treasurers; Leo Supun Dilshan, the Club Treasurer; Leo Nelum Bandara and Leo Jayani Dinushika, the Club Assistant Secretaries; Leo Kuvindi Sandaleka, the Club Secretary; Leo Chanuka Pelpita, the Second Club Vice President; Leo Milan Ishara, the First Club Vice President and finally Leo Lalanka Samarakoon, the Club President. Both physical and digital platforms prepared the way for all Regime Members to be installed under the divisions of Membership Performance and Evaluation, Fundraising and Management, Club Leadership and Development, Public Relations and Publicity, Information and Technology, Faculty Coordinators and Editorial Panel.
Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.
The outgoing Club President Leo Nipuna Sandaruwan took the first step into the new era by passing over the proceedings to the newly installed Club President Leo Lalanka Samarakoon with a bright and sparkling hope. Then the oil lamps were lit by all the privileged guests, hoping that even a single lamp would banish the deepest darkness. Following a video of the newly installed Office Bearers being introduced, Leo Lalanka Samarakoon, the Club President addressed the audience. Then the occasion was enlightened by speeches from distinguished guests who recalled the excellence of Leo Club of University of Colombo. Delivering the closing remarks, Club Advisor Lion Ranjith Pushpakumara from the Parent club, Lions Club of Oruwela added his best wishes for UOC LEOS while cherishing the memories of the first Club Advisor Late Lion Dr. Sarath Wijechandra, the Past District Governor, Lions District 306 C1.
There is a miracle in every New Beginning. Stay positive.
Better days are on the way. The 7th annual installation ceremony was ended with the vote of thanks by Leo Kuvindi Sandaleka, the Club Secretary with a final thought. “There is no real ending. It’s just the place where you stop the story”. So, this is the Beginning, the beginning of a new chapter of Leo Club of University of Colombo which is going to be filled with happiness, fun, laughter, challenges, courage, unity and many more including the victory. It is time to continue the legacy by heading TOWARDS EMINENCE WITH PRIDE.
