Project නිසාගිනි of Leo Club of the University of Colombo focuses on relieving hunger and promoting health. Following its original aim in contributing to these Sustainable Development Goals, නිසාගිනි 4.0 is organized as a three-phased project. The first phase, “පළමු කට #The First Bite” was successfully completed on 16th of January via Zoom platform and the session was also live-streamed via Facebook. The session was conducted on these online platforms enabling the public to be able to access the session comfortably, and effectively without facing any difficulty. This session was conducted bilingually on the theme “Food Patterns and Healthy Eating” from 6.30 P.M onwards, with the collaboration of Dr. Himalee De Silva, Senior Lecturer, Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo.
Our guest speaker delivered a session in a friendly manner, where any layman can understand every subjective matter. The session commenced by referring to ayurvedic guidelines on healthy food and food patterns, then gradually going in-depth, Dr. Himalee De Silva briefed on food combinations and adverse effects of unhealthy food combinations. Moreover, her interactive session consisted of a thorough explanation about a balanced diet, its effect and instances of bad food consumption practices. Making her session interesting she made participants focus on the importance of salt and sugar while emphasizing its both good and bad while giving tips to store our food ingredients without them being exposed and mixed with toxic substances. It is to happily remark that Dr. Himalee De Silva never failed to surprise participants by sharing healthy and affordable food recipes, given the current scarcity and lack of resources and foods in Sri Lanka. Moreover, the session gave the privilege for participants to look at our speaker's kitchen which inspired young people on the importance of healthy foods and food patterns. After an interacting session participants were allowed to clarify their doubts, where many participants utilized this time in a productive manner which made the sole purpose of the session a success. The speaker remarked, “the past is your lesson, the present is your gift and the future is your motivation.”
Thus පළමු කට #The First Bite, the first phase of project නිසාගිනි 4.0 was successfully concluded. Further, we appreciate Thuru.lk for partnering with us as the Official Gift Partner for offering e-vouchers for all the participants. Finishing The First Bite was our first attempt in reaching our goal to contribute to society. Therefore, it is our humble invitation for you to join hands with project නිසාගිනි 4.0 in its upcoming phases.
