Sindu Nala Raksha 8.0-2nd Phrase-Nature’s Heir
The second phase of Sindu Nala Raksha 8.0-Nature’s Heir took place at the renowned Gagula Weda Madura in Panadura on the 30th of December 2024. This ambitious initiative brought together more than 50 passionate project members, united by a shared commitment to preserving Sri Lanka’s unique biodiversity. The event began at 9:00 AM with a collective effort to clean the herbal garden at Gagula Weda Madura, a center celebrated for its expertise in Sri Lankan hela wedakama and Ayurvedic eye treatments. The participants worked tirelessly, not only revitalizing the garden but also planting over 15 endemic trees and medicinal plants, including species of immense ecological and cultural value such as Mee, Bin kohomba, Nika, Ankenda, and Madara.
Each plant represents a step toward safeguarding Sri Lanka’s natural heritage and supporting traditional Ayurvedic practices that rely on these invaluable resources. The atmosphere was one of teamwork and hope, as every member contributed to creating a sustainable future. The event concluded with a heartfelt address from Dr. B.I.M.L. Fernando, who expressed profound gratitude to the Sindu Nala Raksha team for their remarkable efforts in conserving these precious trees and plants. His words underscored the importance of such initiatives in fostering environmental responsibility and cultural preservation.
Nature’s Heir embodies the essence of environmental stewardship. By preserving endemic flora and promoting their use in traditional medicine, this project creates a bridge between nature and culture, ensuring a living legacy for generations to come.
Join us in celebrating and supporting such impactful endeavours. Together, we can continue planting the seeds of hope and resilience for a greener, healthier Sri Lanka.
