8th Annual Installation Ceremony of Leo Club of University of Colombo
The glorious 8th Annual Installation Ceremony of Leo Club of University of Colombo, the major inauguration of the new set of propelling Regime of Leos for the Leoistic year 2022/23, was held on the 3rd of September at the New Arts Theatre, University of Colombo, as it entered another extraordinary year aiming nothing but success on its path. Being a proud UOC Leo who appreciates the value of taking action is a turning point that advances us toward our goals, and on this occasion, we declared to carry on the Legacy with Pride and Lead. (P.S. The gentlemen were not seconded in their stylish suits to the ladies who were dressed in sarees more attractive than the event decorations.)
Lion Saman Jinadasa PMJF PMAF, the 2nd Vice
District Governor of Lions District 306 C1, served as the Chief Guest, while
Leo Kojitha Gamlath, District President, Leo District 306 C1, was the Guest of
Honour on this significant day. The presence of the Special Guest Leo Rahul
Attanyake, the Multiple District President, Leo Multiple District 306 as well
as other distinguished guests, Leo Lion Mandakini Kariyawasam, Multiple
District Secretary, Immediate Past District President, Leo District 306 C1, PDP
Lion Dhanushka Sandanayake, District Chairman for Leos of Leo District 306 C1,
Leo Lion Dumithri Perera, District Secretary, Leo District 306 C1, Leo Nisal
Dulmith, District Treasurer, Leo District 306 C1, Parent Lions Club President,
Lion Chandani Palliyaguruge, Lions Club of Oruwala, Club Advisor, Lion Ranjith
Pushpakumara and Staff Advisor, Lion Dr. Rajitha De Silva augmented true
Lionism and Leoism to the occasion.
Then, following the
welcome speech, the necrology video was played in cherishing the memories of
the First Club Advisor Late Lion Dr. Sarath Wijechandra, the Past District
Governor, Lions District 306 C1.
Accordingly, the Immediate
Past Club President, Leo Lalanka Samarakoon, also known as “Ape Loku Nilame"
then addressed the gathering. He described his journey at the club in a
wonderful way. As always, his words inspired UOC LEOS to dream more, learn
more, do more, and become more. Additionally, he emphasized that the previous
year had demonstrated the value of working together and supporting one another
during difficult times. He also expressed his sincere gratitude to each and
every person who contributed to raise the club to greater heights during his
presidency. The Outgoing Club President then presented certificates of
appreciation to the Outgoing Regime Members for their hard work in ensuring the
prosperity of the club.
Marking the club's strength is each member, and each individual's strength is the club, the induction of new club members embarked on a promising journey for the coming year 2022/23.
Next arrived was the most awaited moment of the day, the regime members who are well equipped to carry forward the Legacy with Pride and Lead for the Leoistic year 2022/23 were installed. The newly appointed regime members under the divisions of Membership and Performance Evaluation, Fundraising and Management, Club Leadership and Development, Public Relations and Publicity, Information and Technology and Editorial Panel were installed first, and afterwards, the Executive Committee was introduced.

Hoping for a future filled with Leoism and Optimism, the Immediate Past Club President Leo Lalanka Samarakoon handed over the proceedings to the newly installed Club President Leo Haritha Vimukthi and responsibilities were also formally handed over (JAYA WEWA! Let's shout out and congratulate our 8th Club President of Leo Club of University of Colombo with a hearty round of applause!)
Then, the proceedings for
the day commenced by inviting the dignitaries to brighten the traditional oil
lamp to bring serenity and significance to the event. Following a video of
newly installed office bearers, Leo Haritha Vimukthi, the Club President of Leo
Club of University of Colombo, affectionately known as “Boss” addressed the audience
for the first time. He shared a lot of experiences he gathered through Leo and
further emphasised how he wishes to bring positive changes during his year of
presidency. Starting his Leo journey as a prospect, then serving as the Project
Chair of Project ‘Arogya’, being a committee member for the projects: Alert, Be
Their Vision, Elation and Kruthaguna and finally now as the captain of the
ship, ‘Ape Boss’ is the perfect person for us to learn about
Academic-Leo-Life balance.
Next, the Chief Guest for the event Lion Saman Jinadasa PMJF PMAF, the 2nd Vice District Governor of Lions District 306 C1 addressed the gathering and shared insightful thoughts about how Lionism inspires Leoism. Then, speeches by honourable guests who highlighted the magnificent journey of Leo Club of the University of Colombo illuminated the event. Long formalities came to a break, and the stage was then set up for two energizing performances by our very own Lady Singing Star Leo Sashmini Anuradha and our very own Fabulous 9. (Fabulous 9 තමයි හොඳටම කරේ). These performances were truly extravaganza entertainment to be noted, and everyone in the audience was humming along to their consonant tunes.
Afterward, a token of appreciation was presented by Leo Haritha Vimukthi and appreciated the dignitaries who were presented for the occasion. Next, the podium was undertaken by fellow Leos of other clubs to felicitate. After all the warm wishes, the newly appointed Club Secretary Leo Methma Athauda, ‘Our Boss Lady’ voiced the gathering in delivering the Vote of Thanks on a final note. The ceremonial proceedings of the 8th Annual Installation Ceremony came to a closure with the Dawn of a New Era while continuing the true essence of UOC LEOS through ‘Legacy with Pride and Lead’.
