Project Sahurda Yathra 2.0- Phase 3

 “Sahurda Yathra  2.0”  is one of the significant projects organized by Leo Club of University of Colombo for the second consecutive time, under the category  of helping hand to differently- abled, consisting  of  three phases with the prime purpose of encouraging people with disabilities to start their own business or a job to improve their living standards and to improve their physical and mental health. People with disabilities need our help  to stand up for improvements  i n  their lives. Among them, the  dependent  war heroes who defended the freedom of ours are very much special. A nd it is our  responsibility  to help them  for the well-being of their lives as a token of gratitude. In our urbanizing world, which mostly features unsustainable consumption and production patterns, addressing solid waste, plastic pollution is becoming more pressing than ever before. And the outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in late 2019 creates additional challenges for waste management, especially in developing countries like Sri Lanka. It is affecting our societies and economies and has had a deep impact on our everyday lives. While protecting lives and recovery of livelihoods are at the core of national and local policies and actions, proper management of waste, including of household, healthcare, and another hazardous waste is an essential civic service to minimize possible secondary impacts upon health and the environment. A street sweeper or street cleaner may refer to a person's occupation, or a machine that cleans streets. A street sweeper cleans the streets, usually in urban areas. As they working with waste and garbage lots of health issues are effect their lives . Due to their  low income level, they do not consider about sanitary needs hence sanitary requirements are in a very  minor level for them and their families as well. Especially the people who sweep streets as mention earlier unable to allocate money for their sanitary expenses because fulfilling of their essential needs such as food and shelter is also a very difficult task to them. Sindu Nala Raksha 4.0 - Third Phase

The final phase of the environmental conservation project "Sindu Nala Raksha 4.0" was successfully ended on 13th February 2021, with the completion of the wildlife photography competition "Through the Lens". Under the theme of  "Conservation through Competition", this phase was organized to increase the society's tendency on conserving wildlife & seeing the beauty and value of wildlife through their eyes! And also it was a great opportunity for the talented young wildlife photographers who admire the wildlife as a gift of nature. The competition was held online via Facebook platform from 23rd January to 13th February. Two winners were selected at the end of the competition; The winner of " Best Photograph" & "Most Popular Photograph". Survival 3.0 | Phase 03 - A Fire Safety Programme

The negligence and lack of knowledge on fire safety drive people’s lives to death and it is reported that 5 000 burn injuries happen every year at the workplace. Hence, Leos of University of Colombo decided to make aware workmen on fire safety at work in order to perceive the objective of the project Survival 3.0 while, indicating the conclusion of the project. Accordingly, a fire safety program was conducted for the employees of Shakthi Industries, Homagama. The session was held on 12th February 2021 with the enormous support of the Fire Brigade of Sri Lanka. The third phase of the project typically pivoted on sharing the knowledge on fire safety and training the workforce on the usage of fire safety equipment. Miles of Smiles 2.0 - Phase 02

Currently, premature birth has become a ceaseless problem in the globe as well as in Sri Lanka. Correspondently, the Leo Club of University of Colombo decided to donate the necessary materials to the premature children in Sri Lanka with the aim of enriching the lives of vulnerable children in the country while stating the conclusion of the journey of Miles of Smiles. The necessary materials were donated to the premature birth children in the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children, Colombo 08 on 25th February 2021 along with the contribution of Leo members. Required milk packets and fruits were donated as the necessary materials to premature birth children and the team was admired by the healthcare attendees of the hospital as premature birth children are not addressed by many of the communities in the country.
