Suwadanama - Phase 6
A street sweeper or street cleaner may refer to a person's occupation, or a machine that cleans streets. A street sweeper cleans the streets, usually in urban areas.
As they working with waste and garbage lots of health issues are effect their lives . Due to their low income level, they do not consider about sanitary needs hence sanitary requirements are in a very minor level for them and their families as well.
Especially the people who sweep streets as mention earlier unable to allocate money for their sanitary expenses because fulfilling of their essential needs such as food and shelter is also a very difficult task to them.
Their is a high probability that they have to face to the risk of COVID 19 infection as they are directly contacted group of people in the society. Also any other diseases will be caused by dealing with garbage such as skin diseases and breathing difficulties due to prolonged exposure. Therefore keeping sanitary items on hand should be done by them in order to prevent these inconvenience.
These issues are the rational for sixth phase of Suwadanama. On 28th of February from 7.30 am onwards our members distributed sanitary items which consist with hand sanitizers, KN95 face masks, face shields to 50 people who work in near Colombo fort.
They were delighted and appreciated our leos, some of them reject to take photographs due to some personal reasons. Leo Gayathri Haththotuwa and Leo Lahiru Madhuwantha and few members conducted the phase since much Leo members cannot participate due to this current pandemic situation. As a whole the project was succeeded with achieving the aim of project Suwadanama.
