Eco clan- Phase 1



In our urbanizing world, which mostly features unsustainable consumption and production patterns, addressing solid waste, plastic pollution is becoming more pressing than ever before. And the outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in late 2019 creates additional challenges for waste management, especially in developing countries like Sri Lanka. It is affecting our societies and economies and has had a deep impact on our everyday lives. While protecting lives and recovery of livelihoods are at the core of national and local policies and actions, proper management of waste, including of household, healthcare, and another hazardous waste is an essential civic service to minimize possible secondary impacts upon health and the environment.

By being accountable for encouraging awareness, take appropriate treatment and introducing disposal methods on responsible consumption and waste management, Leos of University of Colombo District 306 C1 conducted the project “Eco Clan 4.0” along with the three phases for the 4th consecutive time.



Thereby, “Waste can mask our future” had initiated as the first phase of the project, which was a virtual discussion This was held on 16th January 2021 via Zoom and the guest lecture for the evening was Mr. Lakshman Jayathunga, Senior Environment Officer, Central Environment Authority, Mathara District. The online virtual discussion was successfully conducted with 56 participants. Through the discussion we were able to provide the necessary education on irregular disposal of surgical masks, sanitizer bottles and other safety equipment & the effects of that, how to disposal in a proper mean.

The initial phase of the project was conducted effectively with the immense help of the executive committee of the club, club members, and partners and along with the proper guidance of many parties.
