Survival 3.0 | Phase 03 - A Fire Safety Programme
The negligence and lack of knowledge on fire safety drive people’s lives to death and it is reported that 5 000 burn injuries happen every year at the workplace. Hence, Leos of University of Colombo decided to make aware workmen on fire safety at work in order to perceive the objective of the project Survival 3.0 while, indicating the conclusion of the project.
Accordingly, a fire safety program was conducted for the employees of Shakthi Industries, Homagama. The session was held on 12th February 2021 with the enormous support of the Fire Brigade of Sri Lanka. The third phase of the project typically pivoted on sharing the knowledge on fire safety and training the workforce on the usage of fire safety equipment.
The program was started by delivering a proper introduction to the session by Leo Gayan Lakshitha. Next, Mr. Abaya Kumara, the Instructor of Fire Brigade, Sri Lanka gave an introduction to the riskiness of fire, sources to the fire, sources to eliminate the fire, and the instructions on blowing out a fire. Additionally, he demonstrated the way of using fire extinguishers to blow the fire while some of the employees were given the opportunity to blow out the fire as trials. Remarkably, fire extinguishers were donated to the Shakthi Industries, Homagama by the project chairperson, Leo Gayan Lakshitha by achieving the goal of sustainability of the project Survival 3.0.
Survival 3.0 was concluded with everyones’ immense support by attaining the purpose of enhancing the awareness on disaster management and prevention.
