Project “Be Their Vision”
Everyone should have a vision for the world and, soon, other planets and the universe in general. Because without vision, you have no idea what you are doing or should be doing. Your eyesight is one of your most important senses because 80% of what we perceive comes through our sense of sight, but at least 2.2 billion people worldwide have some form of near-or distance vision impairment, and a person's experience of vision impairment varies depending on many different factors. Therefore, the importance of keeping your eyes healthy is high since it keeps your brain healthy and improves your overall quality of life.
For these reasons, the Leo Club of the University of Colombo conducted an online awareness session as the first phase of the project "Be Their Vision 6.0" for the sixth consecutive year in the leostic year 2021/22 in order to protect the eye health of people, since sharing tips for protecting one’s vision is very important to maintain a healthy weight for good vision. This session took place on 6 th of November from 7PM to 8.30 PM through the Zoom and Facebook Live platforms.
With this awareness session, we covered the areas of what people can do to promote good eye health in day-to-day life in order to monitor overall eye health and wellness, first aid treatments for eye injuries and computer vision syndrome, and solutions for maintaining good eye health while working with digital devices. Since improving public understanding about the role of eye health in preventing sight loss and not just determining the need for spectacles, should be an important public health message, the insights gained through this session would have a great impact on all the participants as well as the future users of this session’s recorded video
