Diabcure 4.0
“Diabetes is an all-too-personal time bomb which can go off today, tomorrow, next year, or 10 years from now – a time bomb affecting millions like me and the children here today.” - Mary Tyler Moore.
Non communicable
diseases are spreading at an alarming rate over the world. Over 18 million
people die each year from cardiovascular disease, with diabetes and
hypertension being major risk factors. As a result, diabetes is rapidly
becoming a global health-care problem that threatens to become pandemic by
2030.
So in order to subsidize
in killing this silent killer, Diabcure team of Leo club of university of
Colombo came up with the project Diabcure 4.0 which was implemented for the 4th
consecutive year. This
was to be executed in three phases, where's the first phase has already been
implemented on 21st of October, 2021 from 6 .30 pm to 7.pm virtually via zoom
and Facebook live platform due to the restrictions imposed by government due to
the prevailing condition of the country. This insightful session was conducted by
the Dr. Namal Wijesinghe who's serving at the Kothalawala defense university
hospital currently.
As Pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed, increasing diabetes awareness can inform people about probable signs and measures to lower their own risk. So in order to educate the oblivious people especially the youngsters and adults who are vulnerable for diabetes, we thought of having an awareness session as the first phase of Diabcure 4.0 which is a dire need of the society.
Dr.Namal Wijesinghe
preside over this perspicacious session by pointing out the vital need to have
concern on diabetes through the clarification of symptoms, causes, nature of
diabetes. Complications that might arrive and the methods to prevent and to
have treatments was also elaborated by him in an insightful way.
So, with a total of nearly
288 people in attendance through both the platforms zoom and Facebook, the
session drew to a close with the message of avoid sweetness for your betterment
and lots of positive feedbacks about the session. With that the first phase of
Diabcure 4.0 came to an end with the utmost support given by the club officials
and members.
Second phase of the diabcure will be a medical
checkup programme facilitating many medical services to the community. Even if
your diabetes is under control, you still can face many issues so that is why
it is crucial for people to have a routine checkup.Latest clinical technology
is being thrown at the health care industry at a rapid rate. So maintaining
equipment efficiency is critical for providing greater treatment while reducing
expenses. So as the third phase, we would be providing medical instruments such
as glucometers, insulin carriers to a hospital in negambo area.
So with that, the Diabcure team , Leo Janith Chathurka as the chairperson , Leo Ridmi Senarath as the Secretary, Leo Udeshi Ganegoda as the Treasurer, and Leo Malshi Karunarathne as the Co- Secretary are declaring the endiment of the first phase with the hope of your support on the upcoming phases of Diabcure 4.0 with an ending note, “Let’s Dia-Beat This!”.
