 NISAGINI Phase 02 – “Aruthbara Gamirasa”

Essential to human survival, food plays a vital role in our lives. In the past, our wise ancestors in Sri Lanka ingeniously used various methods to preserve these life-sustaining resources. Unfortunately, nowadays, there's not much talk about these clever techniques. We got a cool idea, we revived this ancient wisdom and shone a spotlight on those incredible people with unique skills. It's time to appreciate and share the secrets of preserving food for a lasting impact on our society.

Project Nisagini 6.0, organized by the Leo Club of University of Colombo planned a competition for this as their second project phase in Ehaliyagoda, Wiyalagoda village on 22nd of December 2023.

Thirteen talented contestants took the stage at this exciting event, showcasing their culinary prowess by preparing various delectable dishes in unique and imaginative ways. Their skills presented an astonishing variety of food that left the audience in awe. As examples, they presented ‘Polos Byte, Bimmal Cutlats, Badairigu Halapa, Kos Cutlats, Kos Ata Aggala, Bimmal Boles, Del Badum, Keselmuwa Chips’ etc. Those are a few of so many food items.

We made selections based on innovation, cost, use of local ingredients, and market presence. From evaluating those conditions we selected MeeKiri Kiritoffee and Kabaranka Chips as the winners.

For the selections, we got help from Ms. Ramani Kanthi, a Retired Teacher Consultant in Wiyalagoda.

At the end of the day, we thought we successfully completed our project phase 2 and also we made our day full of amazing experiences. Finally hope to give you all the heartiest thanking who helping us with this amazing social service.
