  Project ආරක්ෂා Bus Repair Project: Phase 05 Leo Club of University of Colombo proudly celebrates the successful completion of Phase five of our six phase community service project, Project Araksha. This important project aims to support the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), strengthening the country's public transportation infrastructure and ensuring passenger safety by raising funds and providing volunteer assistance to fix broken buses. Why We Chose This Project For thousands of people around Sri Lanka, public transit is essential to their everyday life, and buses are among the most popular forms of transportation. However, there are significant dangers to passenger safety from frequent mechanical breakdowns, particularly those involving braking systems.   Project Dayada - Phase 02 Nawa jiwa Leo Club of the University of Colombo successfully carried out the Phase 2 project Dayada titled “Nawa jiwa” on 26th February 2026 at the premises of Sri Sumamarama Viharaya, South Etiyawala. This phase focused on improving the financial literacy and technical knowledge. The program empowered the elders. We chose this project because many elders in our society face challenges in understanding modern banking systems, digital technology, and financial security, which are essential in today’s world. As a university committed to community service, we recognized the importance of empowering senior citizens with practical knowledge while also preserving their valuable cultural heritage. “Mathin Thora Hetak” Phase 2 - Drawing arts demonstrate the impact of the drugs and handing leaflets to conscious individuals Leo Club of the University of Colombo continues with its effective anti-drug abuse program, Phase 2, themed “ Mathin Nidahas Samajayak” (A Society Free from the Chains of the Mind). On February 25, 2026, we switched to community awareness whereby we used creative arts and other educational materials to emphasize the devastating nature of drugs. Our enthusiastic group revealed a magnificent masterpiece at Kotahena Sinhala Kanishta Vidyalaya, the brilliant depiction of the terrible devastation drugs leaves on the precious lives, families, and colorful communities .   Hope Beyond Probation: A Step Toward Social Reintegration Through WISADAMU On the 27th of February 2026, the WISADAMU project successfully carried out a meaningful and transformative programme at the Lawris Child Development Centre. This phase was specially designed for female probationers under the age of 18, with the aim of empowering them through legal awareness, emotional engagement, and career development support as they prepare to reintegrate into society. Understanding the sensitive nature of working with probationary children, the programme began with interactive games and activities. These activities were intentionally designed to create a safe, friendly, and non-intimidating environment.   Beyond the Shelter Healing the Invisible Wounds of Cyclone Dithwa   When we think of a disaster like Cyclone Dithwa, we picture the obvious: uprooted trees, damaged homes, and flooded roads. We see the relief camps, the dry rations, and the temporary roofs. But what about the screams that wake someone up in the middle of the night? What about the anxiety that grips a parent’s heart every time the wind blows a little too hard? These are the invisible wounds, the ones you cannot bandage, but desperately need to heal. While rebuilding homes is the first step, rebuilding a sense of safety in a human heart is the true challenge.
