Saubhagya – phase 02: Haritha Wiya

The Project Saubhagya was launched as a significant endeavor to enhance farming methods among agricultural communities in Sri Lanka. Saubhagya emphasizes empowering communities via small-scale agricultural assistance and eco-friendly methods. The second phase of this significant project, Haritha Wiya, was created to provide these advantages to a deserving community. This stage was effectively conducted on 11th February starting at 10.00 a.m. at Senehasa Elders Home Horana, uniting Leo members with a common goal of service, sustainability, and community support.

With the committed guidance of Project Chairperson Kethaka Kalubowila, the Leo members meticulously strategized and implemented the initiative to guarantee sustained advantages for the seniors. Upon reaching the venue, the team initially found an appropriate location on the site for planting. The chosen area was meticulously cleaned and organized to establish a healthy and efficient setting for planting. Team members teamed up to remove unwanted plants, organize the layout, and take the essential steps to guarantee that the growing process would be orderly and sustainable

After the preparation stage, the club supplied all necessary resources needed for the project.100 plantation pots and 200 Kochchi (Scotch Bonnet) plants, along with fertilizer and other essential materials, were donated to the elders’ home. The members thoughtfully positioned the plants in pots and guaranteeing adequate fertilization. The active participation of the members not only guaranteed the successful setup of the cultivation but also fostered a vibrant and engaging environment at the elders’ home. Each phase, from tidying to sowing, was executed with passion and dedication to ensuring the project's significance.

With Haritha Wiya, we aim to generate enduring benefits for the inhabitants of the elders’ home. The gardening initiative will offer the elderly a chance to utilize their leisure time constructively by reconnecting with nature and taking part in planting activities. Furthermore, the revenue from harvesting Kochchi plants will directly support the household’s upkeep and daily needs. In the end, Saubhagya serves as proof that small, sustainable efforts can generate significant impact, promoting environmental consciousness, financial assistance, and emotional health within the community.
