නිවාරණ- දෙවන අදියර

ස්වකීය සමාජ වගකීම මනාව වටහාගත් කොළඹ විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයීය ලියෝවරුන් වශයෙන් මෙන් ම විශ්වවිද්‍යාල සිසුන් වශයෙන් දිනෙන් දින ව්‍යාප්ත වන හා මුළු  මහත් සමාජයටම සාපයක් බදු මත්ද්‍රව්‍ය උවදුර පිටුදැකීමට වගකීමෙන් ක්‍රියා කිරීම අත්‍යවශ්‍ය කටයුත්තකි. මත්ද්‍රව්‍ය එසේත් නැතහොත් අන්තරායක ඖෂධ යනු වරතමානයේ දී වයස් සීමාවකින් තොරව , ලොකු - කුඩා , ස්ත්‍රී පුරුෂ භේදයකින් තොරව දුකේදීත්, සැපේදීත් එකී සියලු දෙනාගේ මිතුරකු සේ අසලින්ම සිටින දෙයකි. එවැනි සමයක එකී හේතු කාරණා සාධාරණීකරණය නොකොට,මුලිනුපුටා දැමීමට නම් එහි සමාජයෙන් මුලිනුපුටා දැමීම අත්‍යවශ්‍ය වේ. එහිලා "නිවාරණ" ව්‍යාපෘතියේ දෙවන අදියරය ලෙස,මත්ද්‍රව්‍ය භාවිතයට යොමු විය හැකි ආකාර,  මත්ද්‍රව්‍ය භාවිතයේ අහිතකර තත්වයන්, මත්ද්‍රව්‍යවකට ඇබ්බැහි වූවන් හට ඉන් මිදීමට ගතහැකි පියවරයන්, ඊට උදව් උපකාර ලබා ගත හැකි රාජ්‍ය ආයතනයන් පිලිබද මෙන්ම, වගකිවයුතු ශ්‍රී ලාංකිකයෙක් ලෙස මත්ද්‍රව්‍ය නිවාරණයට දායක විය හැකි ආකාර පිළිබඳ දැනුවත් කිරීමේ වැඩසටහනක් ZOOM මාධ්‍ය ඔස්සේ සහ FACE BOOK සජීව සංවාදයක් වශයෙන් පසුගිය පෙබරවාරි 14 වැනිදා අතිශය සාර්ථක අයුරින් පැවැත්විණි. සුවදානම පස්වන පියවර

අද වන විට මුළු ලෝකයම පසු කරමින් පවතින්නේ කොරෝනා වසංගත සමයක් බව අප කවුරුත් දන්නා කාරණයක්. එනිසාම දිනපතා විකාශනය වන ප්‍රවෘත්ති විකාශන තුළත්, දිනපතා පළවන පුවත්පත් තුළත්, විවිධ සමාජ මාධ්‍ය හරහාත් වැඩි අවධානයක් යොමු ව පවතින්නේ මෙම කොරෝනා වසංගතය වෙතයි. නමුත් ශ්‍රී ලංකාවාසී වන අප විසින් මීට ඉහත කාල වකවානුවලදී කොරෝනා වසංගතයසේම මාරාන්තික වසංගත තත්ත්වයන්ට මුහුණ දී තිබෙනවා. ඉන් ප්‍රධාන වශයෙන් අපගේ මතකයට නැගෙනුයේ මාරාන්තික ඩෙංගු වසංගතයයි. ඉහත වර්ෂ වලදී මෙම මාරාන්තික ඩෙංගු උවදුර හේතුවෙන් සිදු වී ඇති ජීවිත හානි සංඛ්‍යාව ද ඉතා විශාල සංඛ්‍යාවකි. නමුත් වර්තමානය වන විට අපි ජීවත්වනුයේ ඩෙංගු අවධානමක් මීට පෙර ඇති නොවුනා සේය. එහෙත්, 2021 වර්ෂය ගත වූ ජනවාරි මාසය තුළ පමණක් ඩෙංගු රෝගීන් දාහකට(1000) අධික සංඛ්‍යාවක් වාර්තා වී ඇති බව වසංගත රෝග නිවාරණ අංශය පවසනවා. එසේම අද වන විට විශාල වශයෙන් භාවිතයට ගැනෙන සැනිටයිසර් දියර බෝතල්, මුව ආවරණ, අත්වැසුම් ආදිය නිසි පරිදි බැහැර නොකිරීමත්, පවතින වැසි කාලගුණ තත්ත්වයත් හේතුවෙන් ඩෙංගු අවදානම නැවතත් හිස ඔසවන ලකුණු අපට දැකගත හැකි විය. එනිසාම අවදානමක පෙර ලකුණු පෙනෙන ඩෙංගු අවදාන

Miles of Smiles 2.0 - Phase 01 - ස්නේහ යාත්‍රා

The project ‘Miles of Smiles 2.0’ is an initiative under the category of the ‘Spotlight on Children’ with the objective of bringing hope and laughter to the vulnerable children who struggle with various social injustices. A spend a day; ‘ස්නේහ යාත්‍රා’ was conducted as the first phase of the project on 6th of February 2021 at Sri Sangamitta Girls’ Child Development Center, Pamankada from 12 noon onwards. At the arrival of the Child Development Center, all the attendees were warmly welcomed by the adorable kids of Sri Sangamitta Girls' Child Development. The Leos of University of Colombo addressed and introduced themselves to the kids. Then, the kids were offered lunch which was prepared by the Leos. Afterward, Leos spent time with the children by singing songs. Then, the children were given some gifts from the leos. Survival 3.0 - Phase 02 - Hit the Surf!

‘Hit the Surf!’; a drowning management and prevention training program was conducted on the 6th of February 2021 at Mount Lavinia Beach with the contribution of the Life Saving Association of Sri Lanka. This second phase was initiated as a continuation of the Survival project which aimed to strengthen the reliance and adaptive capacity while improving the education and awareness of human and institutional capacity in relation to the natural hazards. The training program was held physically while preserving the health guidelines in order to achieve the objective of the project effectively and efficiently while providing the knowledge and training on drowning management and prevention to the youngsters and the school children. The main intention of this project is to educate the youngsters on water safety tips. Mr. M. W. D. Helping Hands – Project Sahurda Yathra 2.0- Phase 02

“Sahurda Yathra 2.0” is one of the significant projects organized by Leo Club of University of Colombo for the second consecutive time, under the category of helping hand to differently-abled, consisting of three phases with the prime purpose of encouraging people with disabilities to start their own business or a job to improve their living standards and to improve their physical and mental health. People with disabilities need our help and it is our duty to help them to stand up for improvements in their lives. Therefore as the second phase of Sahurda Yathra 2.0, Leo Club of University of Colombo conducted a medical check-up program for physically, mentally and sensory disabled people who live in Sujatha Elder’s Home, Kalutara North, on 29th of January 2021 from 9.00 a.m. onwards. This home primarily take-care of 81 people under several age groups with various disabilities like Down syndrome, Autism, and other physical and mental disorders. Survival 3.0 - Phase 01

The project ‘Survival 3.0’ is implemented under the category of ‘Disaster Management and Prevention’ which is aimed at strengthening the reliance and adaptive capacity while improving the education and awareness of human and institutional capacity in relation to natural hazards. A webinar was held on 24th of January 2021, via Zoom application, based on the topic called; ‘How to Prevent Natural Disasters?’ to raise awareness among the youngsters and school children on precautionary remedies of natural disasters. The event was organized virtually due to the prevailing pandemic in the country. Mrs. Anoja Seneviratne, the Director of the Mitigation Research & Development, Disaster Management Centre, Sri Lanka was invited as the resource person of this web seminar. As humans, they do not want our pity or an awkward avoidance. They just want to be treated like we would treat anyone else; they have little hope of going to school, getting a job, having their own home, socializing, or voting. But people with disabilities in society may experience adverse socio-economic benefits such as lower education, lower employment rates, and higher poverty rates due to social isolation. If someone asks you to close your eyes for a couple of minutes, You will realize that with the momentary darkness in front of your eyes you will feel quite anxious, nervous and quite uncomfortable. This simply proves how humans depend on the vision or eyesight quite naturally and effortlessly. The eyes are one of the most important and highly developed sensory organs in the human body but it is a fact that humans do not pay enough attention in taking care of this invaluable sensory organ. Based on this concept the Leo club of University of Colombo introduced the project ‘Be Their Vision’ and this iconic project is being continued for the fifth consecutive time in the Leostic year 2020/21. The main focus of the project is on defeating one of the most common issues in the global context; which is eye impairment among any age group of the society. Prakampana

Prakampana was organized for the first time with the aim of concise the youth on how to use media effectively and also give morality from famed characters in social media and give the society a light relief in the situation of the pandemic. Thereby we organized the event Prakampana as two phases and were successfully held on 27th December 2020 and 17th January 2021. In the first segment of the first phase, we were able to purvey the youth on how to use social media effectively, how to be effective content creators, and motivate them to share positives on social media platforms through conducting a discussion with social media influencers. We invited Mrs. Ayomi Vithanage who plays different roles as a teacher, entrepreneur, foreign news reporter, actress and the three famed people as YouTubers and business analysts Mr. Gihan Lakshitha, Mr. Arun Madumadawa and Mr. Theewaka Malinga.
