Survival 3.0 - Phase 02 - Hit the Surf!
‘Hit the Surf!’; a drowning management and prevention training program was conducted on the 6th of February 2021 at Mount Lavinia Beach with the contribution of the Life Saving Association of Sri Lanka. This second phase was initiated as a continuation of the Survival project which aimed to strengthen the reliance and adaptive capacity while improving the education and awareness of human and institutional capacity in relation to the natural hazards.
The training program was held physically while preserving the health guidelines in order to achieve the objective of the project effectively and efficiently while providing the knowledge and training on drowning management and prevention to the youngsters and the school children. The main intention of this project is to educate the youngsters on water safety tips.
Mr. M. W. D. Wickramaratne, the Instructor, the Life-Saving Association, Sri Lanka was the resource person to conduct the event ‘Hit the Surf!’ who is specialized in the sport of Swimming. It started at 8.00 am with the enthusiastic participation of 34 participants.
The attendees were able to grab the knowledge and were instructed with the techniques to be used in a drowning situation via this training session. Mr. M. W. D. Wickramaratne provided the knowledge and the necessary techniques on the self-rescue. Additionally, the participants were given a valuable certificate acknowledging their participation.
The energetic contribution of everyone, especially the immense support of our resource person navigated the event towards the achievement of the objective of this project.
