Survival 3.0 - Phase 01
The project ‘Survival 3.0’ is implemented under the category of ‘Disaster Management and Prevention’ which is aimed at strengthening the reliance and adaptive capacity while improving the education and awareness of human and institutional capacity in relation to natural hazards.
A webinar was held on 24th of January 2021, via Zoom application, based on the topic called; ‘How to Prevent Natural Disasters?’ to raise awareness among the youngsters and school children on precautionary remedies of natural disasters. The event was organized virtually due to the prevailing pandemic in the country.
Mrs. Anoja Seneviratne, the Director of the Mitigation Research & Development, Disaster Management Centre, Sri Lanka was invited as the resource person of this web seminar. The event started at 7.00 noon with the energized participation of 73 including the resource person.
During the presentation of Mrs. Anoja Seneviratne, she emphasized the importance of human contribution to the adoption and mitigation of natural and natural health hazards while the participation was able to gain knowledge on methods to adopt to the natural disasters. An interactive session was conducted where the participants ’ significant questions were replied to with transparent answers of the speaker.
Leos of University of Colombo was able to conclude this worthwhile and informative session for all the participants which brought the facts and details on the types of natural hazards, sources of hazards, the riskiness of the disasters, disaster risk management, and risk treatments.
The agile participation and contribution of everyone along with the contribution of Mrs. Anoja Seneviratne made the first phase of the project more lucrative and productive.
