Care Gen – Phase 2: MIND BLOOM
Together for Health – Together for Hope!

The Leo Club of the University of Colombo has always been at the forefront of community service, promoting well-being and inclusivity through impactful initiatives. As part of this mission, the club launched the Care Gen project, a comprehensive program designed to raise awareness, foster engagement, and spread joy among those in need. Mind Bloom – Phase 2, held on March 12, 2025, at Mith Sewana, Bellanthara, was a significant milestone in this project, focusing on mental health awareness, creative activities, and entertainment for 80 special children. This initiative not only aimed to educate and empower but also to bring happiness and warmth to children with special needs through a thoughtfully curated experience. The foundation for Mind Bloom – Phase 2 was laid well before the event itself. Recognizing the importance of a conducive and inspiring learning environment, the Care Gen team took the initiative to paint the children’s desks at Mith Sewana in the days leading up to the event.

The event officially began at 10:30 AM with a comprehensive awareness session on mental health, led by Mrs H. Dilini Perera. The session emphasized the importance of emotional resilience, stress management, and fostering a positive mindset. Through interactive discussions, real-life examples, and practical coping strategies, attendees gained valuable knowledge on how to create a more mentally supportive environment for children with special needs. Following the awareness session, the event transitioned into a series of hands-on activities designed specifically for the special children in attendance. These activities were carefully crafted to stimulate creativity and encourage social interaction, ensuring that every child had an opportunity to express themselves in a comfortable and supportive environment.

As the day progressed, the entertainment program took center stage, creating a lively and energetic atmosphere. The event began with a lively musical performance, where members of the Leo Club showcased their talent through soulful singing and instrumentals. The atmosphere quickly filled with melodic tunes and cheerful rhythms, setting the stage for a heartwarming experience. Adding to the magic, some of the special children joined in, clapping along, singing, and even showcasing their own musical talents. Following the musical session, the event took an energetic turn with dynamic dance performances. Members of the Leo Club performed vibrant dance routines, bringing excitement and energy to the event. However, the highlight of this segment was when several special children enthusiastically joined in, dancing alongside the volunteers with pure joy and confidence.

Beyond the awareness sessions and activities, the Care Gen project ensured that its impact extended beyond just one day. As part of the initiative, the team provided essential medical donations to Mith Sewana. The event concluded with a heartfelt thanks’ speech from Sanjana at 4.30 PM. Through its thoughtful planning, engaging sessions, creative activities, and meaningful contributions, Care Gen successfully reinforced its vision of a healthier, more compassionate society. The smiles, laughter, and expressions of gratitude from the children stood as a powerful testament to the event’s success.
