LEAD C1: Unlocking Leadership through Experience
The LEAD C1 Outbound Training Program, organized by Leo Club of the University of Colombo, was a truly adventurous experience that challenged participants to push their limits, develop leadership qualities, and foster teamwork. Held on 12th March 2025 from 8 AM onwards, the event was guided by the officers of the Katukurunda Defence School, who provided invaluable training and insights. The day began with a structured session on discipline, resilience, and decision-making. The instructors emphasized the importance of self-control, perseverance, and quick thinking in challenging situations. Participants were encouraged to step out of their comfort zones, adapt to uncertainties, and make strategic decisions under pressure. This session set the tone for the rest of the day, reinforcing the mindset needed to excel in leadership roles.

Following the morning session, the real adventure began as participants engaged in a series of outdoor activities designed to test their leadership abilities, coordination, teamwork, and critical thinking. Each task required them to communicate effectively, plan strategically, and execute with confidence, reinforcing the essential qualities of a strong leader. Leadership drills challenged individuals to step up and guide their teams through complex challenges, developing their ability to take initiative and make decisive choices. Team coordination exercises strengthened communication and synergy among participants, emphasizing the importance of working together to achieve a common goal. Critical thinking tasks tested their ability to analyze situations quickly and make sound decisions under pressure, helping them adapt to unpredictable challenges with confidence and clarity.

Beyond the excitement and thrill of these activities, participants walked away with valuable lessons that will stay with them long after the event. They learned the power of pre-planning, recognizing that every successful task begins with a well-thought-out strategy. The importance of adaptability in challenges became evident, as they discovered that obstacles are inevitable, but a strong leader knows how to assess, adjust, and take action accordingly. Above all, they experienced firsthand the strength of teamwork, understanding that no great achievement happens in isolation and that collaboration and trust is the key to success.

Throughout the day, participants were provided with refreshments and lunch, ensuring they had the energy to fully engage in the activities and make the most of the experience. Additionally, each participant received a valuable certificate, marking their involvement and personal growth throughout the program. Adding to the significance of the program, Leo District 306 C1 President, Leo Nisal Dulmith, also participated in the event, inspiring everyone with his leadership and support. His presence further motivated the participants to embrace the challenges and make the most of this learning experience. As the day concluded, participants reflected on their personal growth, the bonds formed, and the invaluable insights gained. LEAD C1 was more than just an event—it was a stepping stone toward becoming resilient, confident, and capable leaders. With heartfelt gratitude to the officers of the Katukurunda Defence School, Leo District 306 C1 President Leo Nisal Dulmith, the organizing team, and every participant, LEAD C1 proved that true leadership is not just about leading others; it’s about leading oneself through every challenge and opportunity.
