Share with care - නිසාගිනි 4.0 | Phase 03
It is with the main intention of relieving hunger for any age group in the community who are facing various nutritional issues in today’s society, the project “නිසාගිනි” of Leo Club of University of Colombo made it their responsibility to make it a continuance project for the fourth consecutive time in this Leoistic year 2020/21. Malnutrition remains of serious concern and is considered as an obstacle to socio-economic development in Sri Lanka. The project is being outlined to be compatible with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The project was executed in three phases, where the first phase of the project, “පළමු කට #The First Bite”, the second phase, “Green Motive” and the third phase, “Share with Care” have already been conducted on 16th January, 2022, 20th March, 2022 and 27th March, 2022 respectively.
“Share
with Care”, the third phase of the project was successfully concluded on 27th
March, 2022 at the Maternity Clinic of Udumulla, Mulleriyawa. “Share with
Care” was organized with the main intention of relieving hunger. Plus, this
project serves to promote the maternal health among pregnant mothers by
encouraging them to have a diet with essential nutrients which is crucial
during pregnancy. Pregnant mothers are in need
of more nutrients than most of the other people in the society. Pregnant
mothers have an increased amount of blood in their bodies so they need more
iron and other nutrients for a healthy pregnancy and to deliver a healthy
child. Most pregnant women can meet these increased nutritional needs by
choosing a diet that includes a variety of healthy foods. But there’s a group
of pregnant mothers in our own communities who are unable to meet the
nutritional needs during the pregnancy because of the financial difficulties
they face. Therefore, as an initiative, the project “නිසාගිනි
4.0” team took the challenge of distributing
25 dry ration packs worth of RS. 4022 among 25 pregnant mothers from selected
low-income families. Miss K. D. H. Sewwandi, Public Health Midwife of Udumulla delivered
a great speech on the event day, appreciating the effort of Leo members in taking
an initiative to relieve hunger and promote maternal health of pregnant mothers.
The entire project is financially
strengthened by Bristol Institute of Business Management (PVT) Ltd, Imperial
College of Business Studies, University of the West of England and Dynamic
Technologies (PVT) Ltd as the Platinum Sponsors and Net Lanka Engineering
Services (PVT) Ltd as the Silver Sponsor. Moreover, we appreciate all the
contributions provided by Leos and non-Leos in making this project a success.
As per the theme of this phase, it is
our utmost intention to relieve hunger, promote maternal health and also
encourage others to share what they have. We believe that other young people in
the society also will be motivated to relieve hunger of even a single person.
As the project “නිසාගිනි 4.0” has come to an end with the completion of
the third phase of the project, the project committee would like to extend their
utmost gratitude to everyone who supported towards the successful completion of
the project.
