Alert 6.0 2nd Phase
Pediatric cancer patients may need blood products regularly during chemotherapy, surgery or treatment for complications as cancer and cancer treatments can put patients at risk for low red cell and platelet counts in the blood. In fact, according to the Red Cross, five units of blood are needed every minute to help someone going through cancer treatment. Every pediatric patient with some cancer like Leukemia needs blood from outsiders cause they are not able to do it on their own body. So, we aim to help with their treatments as so many patients need to get blood from outside to live. And it will help them to live even one day.
As the 1st part of Alert 6.0 2nd phase, we conducted a blood donation program at the Faculty of Technology University of Colombo on the 27th of February 2023. More than 80 people donated their blood to the blood donation unit of Maharagama Apeksha Hospital. Our partners and the parent Leo Club put a great effort to make this program successful.
Lack of knowledge about pediatric cancer and not doing tests for early detection is the main reason to develop cancer in children's bodies. If it is early detected, it can be cured.
Therefore as the 2nd part of our 2nd phase, we conducted an awareness program by a doctor in the pediatric ward at Apeksha Hospital Maharagama. It was conducted for the University students who are the next generation of our country. It was delivered through physical and online platforms to maximize the audience who are getting the benefits from this program.
