Diyani 7.0- Transforming the Lives of Women Entrepreneurs
The Leo Club of University of Colombo, continuing the efforts of the third phase of Project Diyani 7.0, has set its sights on transforming the lives of the women entrepreneurs in Matugama. The primary focus of the project was to empower and uplift women entrepreneurs in the area through education and skill development. As an initial step, we coordinated with the Women's Development Officer at the Divisional Secretariat Office in Matugama and secured their assistance in identifying women most in need. Consequently, we identified over 50 women entrepreneurs from Naravila, Matugama area. It’s noteworthy that the Vidatha Resource Center in Kalutara partnered with us, providing the necessary support to seek the resource person.
On 29th
April 2024, our team journeyed to Matugama to conduct the workshop. During the
event, speeches were delivered by the Project Chairperson Leo Ayesha Kumaraarachchi,
as well as the Women Development Officer of the Divisional Secretariat Office
in Matugama. They emphasized the significance of such initiatives for the
affected communities. The knowledgeable resource person led the way through
each step and patiently answered every question from the audience on the cosmetic
industry. With a calm and approachable demeanour, they guided the discussion, ensuring
everyone felt understood. Their helpfulness and clarity created an atmosphere
of learning, making the experience enjoyable for all involved.
The committee
extended their hospitality by offering refreshments to all participants,
ensuring everyone was treated to a pleasant and satisfying experience. Finally,
the project committee expressed their gratitude to the resource persons,
presenting them with tokens of appreciation. The beneficiaries expressed their
heartfelt gratitude for the workshop extended to them. In return, one of the
committee members conveyed thanks to all local authorities, resource persons
and participants for their invaluable contributions, which ensured the success
of Project Diyani 7.0. Hats off to the project committee, club members and
others who supported a job well done.
