Sidunala Raksha 7.0 – Phase 2
Chief Seattle once wisely said, "Only when the last tree is cut down, the last fish eaten, and the last stream poisoned, you will realize that you cannot eat money." This poignant sentiment resonates deeply with the urgent need for environmental conservation, a call answered by initiatives like "Sindu Nala Raksha 7" second phase.
Set amidst the majestic peaks of Sri Lanka's tallest mountain, the Ragalla, Nuwara Eliya, Piduruthalagala forest area boasts unparalleled biodiversity. Recognizing its ecological significance and vulnerability, a dedicated team launched a landmark reforestation campaign on April 27, 2024.
Driven by a passion for environmental stewardship, the team strategically selected the Piduruthalagala forest area for intervention, backed by thorough research and on-the-ground insights. With a clear goal to restore degraded landscapes and enhance biodiversity, they embarked on an ambitious endemic tree plantation initiative. The success of the project was made possible by the unwavering support of Browns and Company PLC, whose commitment to corporate social responsibility facilitated logistical operations and community engagement. Together with local nature enthusiasts, they planted indigenous tree species endemic to Sri Lanka's rich biodiversity, ensuring the ecological integrity of the region.
Beyond tree planting, the initiative aimed to foster a deeper connection between communities and their natural environment, instilling a sense of ownership and stewardship. Through innovative techniques like GPS tracking, the team ensured the long-term monitoring and management of planted trees, maximizing their ecological impact.
