In developing countries like Sri Lanka, ensuring access to quality learning environments is important to the socio-economic success. Yet, for many communities, the reality falls short, with underprivileged students bearing the brunt of inadequate infrastructure. In response to address the infrastructure gaps within the community, Project “ID” was initiated at Kohalwila Chandarathana Maha Vidyalaya, Kaleniya. The project consisted of constructing a much-needed drinking water supply unit for the school ensuring the students have access to clean and safe drinking water. The project was aimed to benefit its 130 students and 13 staff members.
Construction
of the unit commenced with attention to detail, spanning four days of intensive
work by skilled constructors and with the support and participation of our
members. The constructions involved the installation of the pipe system,
construction of the durable concrete sink, painting of the surrounding walls,
installing the water drainage system and the creation of the pathway leading to
the sink.
On 29th April 2024, at the opening event the school principal and staff expressed their profound gratitude, emphasizing the significance of this long-awaited addition to the school's infrastructure. Project ID concluded as a resounding success, achieving its objectives of enhancing infrastructure facilities while instilling a sense of convenience and collective effort in the young minds of the students.
