Project One Drop 6.0 - Phase III

On April 29th, 2024, a remarkable transformation took place at Bellana Maha Vidyalaya in Matugama, due to the proactive efforts of the LEO Club of University of Colombo. In the third phase of Project One Drop 6.0, the LEO members took on the vital responsibility of restoring a sustainable water supply system for the school, which had been struggling from insufficient access to clean water due to malfunctioning equipment.

The absence of a reliable water supply posed significant challenges for both students and staff at Bellana Maha Vidyalaya. Imagine trying to focus on learning without access to something as basic as clean water for drinking, sanitation, and hygiene. The situation was dire, affecting not only the educational environment but also the overall well-being of the school community.

Recognizing the urgent need for action, the LEO Club of University of Colombo sprang into action. Through collaborative efforts and community support, the club acquired a 1000-liter water tank and initiated repairs on the damaged pipelines to restore the flow of water to the school premises. This initiative not only addressed an immediate need but also laid the foundation for sustainable development and progress.

The project's impact goes far beyond simply providing water. By restoring access to clean water, the LEO Club has empowered the students of Bellana Maha Vidyalaya to pursue their education with new energy and confidence. They can now completely engage in their studies and strive for a better future without being concerned about water scarcity.

Furthermore, the improved water supply has positive implications for hygiene and sanitation practices within the school. With clean water readily available, students and staff can maintain proper hygiene standards, reducing the risk of waterborne illnesses and promoting overall health and well-being.

The success of Project One Drop 6.0 at Bellana Maha Vidyalaya underscores the transformative power of collective action and community engagement. It serves as a shining example of how small acts of kindness and generosity can make a profound difference in the lives of others.

In conclusion, the establishment of a sustainable water supply system at Bellana Maha Vidyalaya represents a significant milestone in the journey towards creating a better, more equitable world. It is a testament to the power of compassion, cooperation, and commitment to positive change. As we celebrate this achievement, let us be inspired to continue our efforts to uplift and empower communities in need, one drop at a time.
