Be Their Vision 9.0 - Phase 02 ( Eyes of Tomorrow)

                   BE THEIR VISION 9.0

          “Inspiring Hope, Enhancing Vision”

Second phase - Eyes of tomorrow

We would like to humbly and proudly announce that the Leo Club of University of Colombo “Be Their Vision 9.0” project was held this year for the 9th consecutive time. This project, dedicated to support visually impaired individuals, aims to improve their welfare and wellbeing. As the second phase of “Be Their Vision 9.0”, an initiative led by the Leo Club of University of Colombo, we recently organized a dedicated awareness session for pregnant mothers. This session, titled “Eyes of Tomorrow”, was held on November 1st, 2024 at the Bandaranayaka Pura Clinic Centre in Kurunegala, and aimed to educate mothers-to-be on the significance of eye health for themselves and their unborn children. The session was conducted by Dr. Kamal Senevirathne from Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, whose expertise made the event both informative and engaging.

Vision care is often overlooked in maternal health, yet pregnancy can bring changes that impact eye health. Hormonal fluctuations, increased blood circulation, and fluid retention can affect eyesight temporarily and, in some cases, lead to more lasting issues. By raising awareness, we hope to empower mothers with the knowledge needed to take proactive steps. This knowledge can help mothers maintain their own eye health and support their child’s eye development. The awareness session covered a range of essential topics and addressed common vision issues that may arise during pregnancy and provided practical tips on managing these symptoms.

To ensure that the information reached everyone effectively, we set up informational boards throughout the clinic with key eye health insights for attendees to review during their visit. Additionally, QR codes were placed throughout the venue to introduce a telemedicine service, enabling mothers to easily access further resources on eye health via their mobile devices. We also distributed printed handouts with eye health guidelines, so mothers could take these important reminders with them. The enthusiastic response from attendees highlighted the importance of this initiative. By promoting eye health knowledge among pregnant mothers, we’re investing in the long-term well-being of both mothers and children.

With the awareness session successfully concluded, we’re motivated to continue our mission to make eye health a priority in the community. We look forward to the next phases of Be Their Vision 9.0, bringing more health services and education to those who need them most. Through these initiatives, the Leo Club of University of Colombo remains committed to building a healthier, brighter future for all.
