      BE THEIR VISION 9.0 -  Vision of Hope


We would like to humbly and proudly announce that the Leo Club of University of Colombo “Be Their Vision 9.0” project was held this year for the 9th consecutive time. This project, dedicated to support visually impaired individuals, aims to improve their welfare and well-being. As the third phase of “Be Their Vision 9.0,” the phase specifically addressed the urgent need for cataract surgeries and enhanced the capabilities of the Vision Therapy Unit at the National Eye Hospital, Colombo. During our collaboration with the National Eye Hospital, it became evident that many patients were unable to access critical cataract surgeries due to financial barriers. Cataracts remain one of the leading causes of blindness in Sri Lanka, and timely surgeries can restore sight and significantly improve the quality of life for those affected.


In addition, the Vision Therapy Unit at the hospital faced challenges in providing comprehensive rehabilitation for patients recovering from surgeries or dealing with other visual impairments. Vision therapy plays a crucial role in improving visual functions, and is especially vital for children and individuals with complex vision issues. However, insufficient resources hindered the unit’s ability to meet the growing demand for its services. Recognizing these needs, our project team set out to address the equipment and funding shortfall. 


21st of December 2024, our project team visited the National Eye Hospital to hand over the much-needed equipment and funds. We were warmly welcomed by the hospital staff, including Deputy Director Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara. During the visit, they highlighted the critical impact of these donations, explaining how the new equipment would significantly enhance patient outcomes in both surgical procedures and therapy sessions.


The donated machines, equipment and funds will undoubtedly empower the National Eye Hospital restore sight to many individuals, provide effective vision therapy, and offer patients a brighter future. With the completion of this phase, project “Be Their Vision 9.0” has successfully concluded. The success of this initiative serves as an inspiration for future initiatives, reminding us all of the extraordinary difference we can make when we come together for a cause greater than ourselves.

විසඳමු - Phase 01

       විසඳමු - Phase o1 - Legal Aid camp The Legal Aid Camp organized by Leo Club of University of Colombo, in collaboration with the Centre for the Study of Human Rights, was a resounding success. Held in Grandpass, the camp began at 10:00 AM and provided vital legal assistance to 54 clients, thanks to the participation of 10 dedicated lawyers, officers from the Human Rights Commission, and representatives from UNDP. The program was further honored by the presence of Leo District President Mr. Nisal Dulmith.  Clients were offered refreshments, while lawyers and volunteers were provided with breakfast, lunch, and evening tea, creating a welcoming and supportive environment. Sindu Nala Raksha 8.0 - 2nd Phase

  Sindu Nala Raksha 8.0-2nd Phrase-Nature’s Heir The second phase of Sindu Nala Raksha 8.0-Nature’s Heir took place at the renowned Gagula Weda Madura in Panadura on the 30th of December 2024. This ambitious initiative brought together more than 50 passionate project members, united by a shared commitment to preserving Sri Lanka’s unique biodiversity. The event began at 9:00 AM with a collective effort to clean the herbal garden at Gagula Weda Madura, a center celebrated for its expertise in Sri Lankan hela wedakama and Ayurvedic eye treatments. The participants worked tirelessly, not only revitalizing the garden but also planting over 15 endemic trees and medicinal plants, including species of immense ecological and cultural value such as Mee, Bin kohomba, Nika, Ankenda, and Madara.
