Eco-Clean - phase 02

             Eco-Clean: Phase two Eco-Shift

Step Towards a Greener Future was held on 29th November 2024, demonstrating Leo Club of University of Colombo's long-lasting commitment towards preserving the nature. As part of our Eco-Shift phase, the Eco-Clean project has made significant strides towards a sustainable future. We've successfully implemented a novel approach to electronic waste disposal in the Seeduwa-Katunayaka Municipal area by establishing dedicated trash cans for electronic waste.

In line with this initiative, we launched a comprehensive poster campaign highlighting the eco-friendly disposal of CFL bulbs. These energy-efficient bulbs, though beneficial, contain mercury, a toxic heavy metal that can have devastating environmental consequences. Mercury, a potent neurotoxin, can contaminate water bodies, soil, and air. When released into the environment, it can bioaccumulate in food chains, posing serious health risks. Consuming seafood contaminated with mercury can lead to neurological disorders, kidney damage, and other health issues. By raising awareness about proper disposal methods, we aim to minimize mercury pollution and safeguard our ecosystems.

Our commitment to a sustainable future is highlighted through this Eco-Shift phase of project Eco-Clean. We strive to inspire a collective responsibility towards environmental conservation. By adopting sustainable practices and making informed choices, we can ensure a healthier planet for future generations. Join us in making a difference. We invite you to be part of this movement!
