Suwa Sneha
On December 24th 2024, the second phase of Sahurda Yathra 6.0, 'Suwa Sneha,' was unveiled at the Mawupiya Sewana Manasika Abadhitha Wadihiti Niwasaya in Weniwelkola. In partnership with the medical team from Wethara Hospital, a health clinic was set up, offering blood pressure, blood sugar, and vision tests. For the 50 elders residing there, it was a rare opportunity to address not only their mental health but also any hidden non-communicable diseases that may have gone unnoticed. The clinic was warmly received, and the residents expressed their gratitude for the care extended to them.
Following the health clinic, attention turned to enhancing the residents' living conditions. Essential items, including a blood glucometer for regular monitoring of blood sugar levels, medicines and other necessities were distributed to meet their immediate needs and support their overall wellbeing. Along with these essentials, food items for the tea meal were provided, ensuring that the residents had a satisfying and nourishing break.
Additionally, efforts were made to enhance their physical environment. A fresh coat of paint was applied to their living spaces, transforming the atmosphere with warmth and a sense of renewal. This act wasn’t just about beautifying their surroundings; it symbolized a gesture of care and offered a more uplifting atmosphere.
The ‘Suwa Sneha’ project was not just about providing tangible assistance; it aimed to create an environment where residents felt seen, heard, and respected. Their smiles and gratitude served as a powerful reminder of the positive impact that can be made through collective effort. Looking ahead, the initiative remains committed to making a lasting, positive impact on the lives of elderly individuals with mental health needs, ensuring they receive the care and dignity they truly deserve.
