Leo Legacy 2026 - Phase 1: Career Lift

“Nurturing youth to create their own legacy.”

Leo Legacy 2026 successfully concluded the first phase, “Career Lift” on February 11th at the Faculty of Management and Finance. This initiative aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional development for undergraduates across all faculties and year groups, facilitated by a partnership with the Career Guidance Unit of the Faculty of Management and Finance. The program provided a unique opportunity for students to gain insights directly from experienced professionals and leaders, along with practical strategies to enhance their personal and professional growth.

The phase included three impactful sessions. The first session focused on the critical importance of personal branding, led by Mr. Thisara Meegahawatta, a renowned brand strategist, business consultant, SME coach, lecturer, and trainer. He emphasized that personal branding is not merely about creating an image but about strategically positioning oneself to stand out in both the corporate world and practical settings. Through practical examples and actionable guidance, he provided undergraduates with a clear roadmap to develop their unique professional identities and enhance their credibility. The session highlighted that mastering personal branding is essential for career growth and long-term success.

The second session centered on the Leo Movement and was presented by Leo Lion Ravindi Hettiarachchi PFLM, the District Vice President of Leo District 306 D6. This session highlighted the values and significance of Leo Clubs. Undergraduates learned how to effectively balance academic responsibilities with leadership and social engagement, and how active involvement in such initiatives can enhance both personal growth and professional readiness. The session underscored that embracing these opportunities builds invaluable character, networks, and experiences that shape a successful future.

The third session was conducted by Mr. Sanju Wickramasinghe, a probationary lecturer at the Department of Marketing, University of Colombo, and the Director of Leadership and Development for the Leoistic Year 21/22. This session addressed strategies for balancing academics with extracurricular activities while maintaining enjoyment and motivation. He provided practical guidance on time management and prioritization, encouraging students to view extracurricular activities as valuable complements to academic success. The session reinforced that a well-rounded university experience fosters resilience and promotes long-term professional success.

“Career Lift” the first phase of Leo Legacy 2026, organized by Leo Club of University of Colombo, created a meaningful and lasting impact on its participants. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many students expressing increased confidence, clearer career direction, and appreciation for the practical guidance provided.
