  Sindu Nala Raksha 8.0-2nd Phrase-Nature’s Heir The second phase of Sindu Nala Raksha 8.0-Nature’s Heir took place at the renowned Gagula Weda Madura in Panadura on the 30th of December 2024. This ambitious initiative brought together more than 50 passionate project members, united by a shared commitment to preserving Sri Lanka’s unique biodiversity. The event began at 9:00 AM with a collective effort to clean the herbal garden at Gagula Weda Madura, a center celebrated for its expertise in Sri Lankan hela wedakama and Ayurvedic eye treatments. The participants worked tirelessly, not only revitalizing the garden but also planting over 15 endemic trees and medicinal plants, including species of immense ecological and cultural value such as Mee, Bin kohomba, Nika, Ankenda, and Madara. ViEquality -  "Creating Change, One Voice at a Time" A world whose voices, particularly those of women, have not yet found their full resonance can be found in the peaceful settings of estate villages, which are frequently obstructed by the haze of hard work and traditional customs. In light of this, as the 2nd phase of Project Diyani 8.0, Leo Club of University of Colombo held an awareness campaign on gender equality, equal rights, women's maltreatment, and the value of education.       One Drop 7.0 | Phase 02: Hands of Hope      "Every drop counts. Every watt matters!" In the distant lands of Lahugala, Ampara, far from the bustling city of Colombo, where kidney diseases have deeply affected the community due to unsafe water, hope arrived with the second Phase of Project One Drop 7.0. titled "Hands of Hope," this initiative aimed to provide a lasting solution to the water challenges faced by the people in this region. On 26th of December 2024, the Leo Club of University of Colombo proudly extended support to the Divisional Hospital Lahugala, ensuring access to safe and clean drinking water. At the heart of this mission was the donation and installation of a Reverse Osmosis (RO) system, which would remove harmful contaminants from the water.                              Suwa Sneha On December 24th 2024, the second phase of Sahurda Yathra 6.0, 'Suwa Sneha,' was unveiled at the Mawupiya Sewana Manasika Abadhitha Wadihiti Niwasaya in Weniwelkola. In partnership with the medical team from Wethara Hospital, a health clinic was set up, offering blood pressure, blood sugar, and vision tests. For the 50 elders residing there, it was a rare opportunity to address not only their mental health but also any hidden non-communicable diseases that may have gone unnoticed. The clinic was warmly received, and the residents expressed their gratitude for the care extended to them.   Following the health clinic, attention turned to enhancing the residents' living conditions.       BE THEIR VISION 9.0 -  Vision of Hope We would like to humbly and proudly announce that the Leo Club of University of Colombo “Be Their Vision 9.0” project was held this year for the 9th consecutive time. This project, dedicated to support visually impaired individuals, aims to improve their welfare and well-being. As the third phase of “Be Their Vision 9.0,” the phase specifically addressed the urgent need for cataract surgeries and enhanced the capabilities of the Vision Therapy Unit at the National Eye Hospital, Colombo. During our collaboration with the National Eye Hospital, it became evident that many patients were unable to access critical cataract surgeries due to financial barriers. Cataracts remain one of the leading causes of blindness in Sri Lanka, and timely surgeries can restore sight and significantly improve the quality of life for those affected.   MATHIN THORA HETAK – Phase 2: AWAREX 🚭 The journey toward a drug-free future continues with Phase 2 of the "මතින් තොර හෙටක්" project, focusing on raising awareness about the dangers of smoking and drug use in public spaces, especially within public transport systems. On 28th December 2024, our dedicated team engaged with bus drivers, conductors, and passengers at Moratuwa Bus Station. Through meaningful interactions, we gathered valuable feedback on the challenges faced regarding smoking and drug use in public transport. This input highlighted the pressing need for initiatives like AWAREX to promote safer and healthier environments for everyone. Our campaign was strengthened by the invaluable contributions of Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Moratuwa Police Station , whose expertise guided our efforts.                       SURVIVAL - PHASE 01   In a world increasingly impacted by natural disasters, preparedness has become more crucial than ever. The first phase of the "Survival" project: a comprehensive initiative for disaster management and prevention, was successfully held on December 17, 2024, at the STF Training Camp in Katukurunda, Kalutara. This phase, themed “Be Prepared,” aimed to equip over 40 university students with essential survival and disaster response skills. The primary goal of this project was to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills required to act decisively during emergencies. This phase mainly focused on three key areas: search and rescue operations, first aid, and survival skills.
