Leo Luna Night’25 : A Night of Glamour, Celebration, and Unforgettable Memories
On the evening of March 14, 2025, the halls of Bourban Grand Hotel, Homagama, came alive with dazzling lights, rhythmic beats, and a vibrant crowd as Leo Club of University of Colombo hosted its most anticipated event of the year—Leo Luna Night’25. Organized for the first time by Leo Club of University of Colombo, this spectacular event was brought to life by the outstanding efforts of Leo Miran Malinga. This grand celebration, filled with music, dance, games, and unforgettable moments, drew an audience of over 200 attendees, including Leos, non-Leos, and university students, all eager to immerse themselves in an evening of entertainment and camaraderie. With the presence of esteemed guests, including the chief guest, Senior Lecturer Mr. Rajishtha De Alwis from Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo, and special guests District President of Leo District 306C1, Leo Nisal Dulmith FLM, along with distinguished district representatives, District Vice President of Leo District 306C1, Leo Anjana Udesh FLM, District Secretary of Leo District 306C1, Leo Chehara Oshadhi, Multiple District Assistant Treasurer, MD 306 Sri Lanka & Maldives, Leo Vinuri Nirodya PFLM, the event was nothing short of spectacular. As the sun set, casting a golden glow over the venue, the night began with a traditional oil lamp lighting ceremony, a symbolic gesture representing prosperity and unity. Leos, dressed in elegant attire, gathered around as the soft glow of the flames illuminated the faces of attendees, setting the perfect ambiance for an evening of celebration. Adding to the warm welcome, guests were greeted with refreshing welcome drinks, allowing them to relax and immerse themselves in the enchanting atmosphere that awaited them. To add a cultural touch, the event opened with a mesmerizing Pooja dance performance by fellow Leos, blending intricate movements and graceful expressions with vibrant costumes. The audience watched in awe as the rhythmic beats of the music intertwined with the fluid choreography, transporting them into a world of elegance and heritage. Following the dance, Leo Miran Malinga, the chairperson of Leo Luna Night’25, took center stage to deliver a warm and heartfelt welcome speech. His words resonated with gratitude and excitement, setting the tone for the festivities ahead.
No celebration is complete without games and entertainment, and Leo Luna Night’25 delivered just that! The first game of the night, the Balloon Dance, had participants moving and grooving while keeping their balloons afloat. The laughter and cheers of the audience created an electrifying atmosphere as pairs danced their way to victory, earning well-deserved prizes. As the competition concluded, the spotlight shifted to a soulful musical performance that left the audience spellbound. The melody resonated through the venue, creating an intimate yet vibrant atmosphere that captivated every listener. Just when the audience thought they had seen it all, the night took a dramatic turn with the entrance of a Sinhala traditional “Salu Paliya” act. The comedic performance, rich with cultural elements and humorous dialogues, had the crowd roaring with laughter. The witty exchanges and exaggerated expressions of the performers breathed life into this age-old art form, proving that traditional entertainment still holds a special place in modern celebrations. To keep the energy soaring, the stage transformed into a Bollywood dreamland, as Leos dressed in dazzling costumes performed a high-energy dance routine. The synchronized movements, vibrant colors, and upbeat music had the audience clapping and cheering along, completely enthralled by the performance. Amidst the grandeur and festivities, an unexpected guest made an entrance, a life-sized Pooh Bear mascot! The crowd erupted with excitement as the beloved character danced around, interacting with the guests and adding a touch of playful charm to the evening. The mascot’s surprise act became a highlight of the night, leaving the audience in absolute delight. One of the most anticipated segments of the night was the Leo Luna King & Queen Selection. More than 60 participants took to the stage, strutting with confidence and elegance as they vied for the prestigious titles. The first round featured a grand walk, where participants showcased their style and poise. As the competition intensified, the finalists were challenged to perform a dance or sing a song, testing not only their charisma but also their ability to entertain. After much deliberation, Meedum Liyanage was crowned Leo Luna King, while Shenya Chandrasiri was honored as Leo Luna Queen. The audience erupted into applause as the winners were adorned with glittering crowns and presented with well-earned prizes.
Following the crowning ceremony, guests were treated to a lavish buffet, where they indulged in an exquisite spread of delectable dishes. The aroma of delicious cuisine filled the air as attendees savored every bite, engaging in conversations and laughter over their plates. Several distinguished individuals were honored with tokens of appreciation, recognizing their invaluable contributions to the success of Leo Luna Night’25. But the night was far from over! As the final course was served, the stage transformed once more—this time, into a pulsating dance floor, where the DJ took over the night. The beats dropped, and the crowd erupted into wild, carefree dance moves, letting loose and celebrating the success of an unforgettable evening. The snow machine in the DJ session created a mesmerizing ambiance, transforming the dance floor into a magical winter wonderland. As the final song played and the night drew to a close, there was a shared sense of joy and accomplishment among all who attended. The event was a testament to the dedication and hard work of Leo Miran Malinga and his organizing team, who left no stone unturned in crafting an evening of magic, culture, and pure entertainment.
