              Planting Seeds of Change

Young Lions, Green Missions: Leo Club Leads the Way!

In a world where environmental challenges are growing more urgent by the day, the responsibility of protecting our planet has never been more critical or more collective. With this spirit in mind, Leo Club of the University of Colombo joined hands with Leo District 306-C1 to contribute to the ambitious and inspiring “Lassana Sri Lanka” project with the mission of planting the seeds of environmental awareness in the hearts of young minds.

Their latest stop on this green journey was Kiribathgoda Viharamahadevi Balika Vidyalaya, where they hosted an impactful and interactive awareness session that brought environmental education to life. It was a one and a half hours session of Learning, Action, and Inspiration held on March 10, 2025 commenced from 12.00 PM to 1.30 PM.

Adding to the event’s significance was the presence of key figures from Leo District 306-C1, including District President Leo Nisal Dulmith FLM along with Chief Coordinator Leo Ravindi Hettiarachchi PFLM, Club President Leo Damith Kaushalya, Second Vice President of the club and the Chairperson of the project “Clean Earth”, Leo Pabasara Jayasinghe, and other dedicated members. Their involvement not only strengthened the impact of the initiative but also underscored the power of unity in driving meaningful change.

The event was not just another school session. It was a well-orchestrated experience designed to ignite curiosity, promote responsibility, and foster a love for nature among the students and teachers alike. The session focused on three key areas:

Environmental Cleanliness: Highlighted the often-overlooked effects of pollution and littering, stressing the importance of keeping surroundings clean not just for aesthetics, but for health and sustainability.

Environmental Protection: Students learned about the delicate balance of ecosystems, the value of biodiversity, and how human actions can either protect or damage our natural world.

Recycling and Waste Management: With practical tips and real-life examples, the team showcased how small changes like separating waste and adopting a circular economy mindset can make a big impact.

The response from the audience was nothing short of amazing. Both students and teachers embraced the session with enthusiasm and curiosity, eager to learn and contribute. The positive energy in the room was infectious, and the feedback afterward confirmed the event's success.

This awareness program stands as a shining example of what can be achieved when passionate individuals and organizations come together for a common cause. It is more than a one-day event; it is a catalyst for lasting change. By empowering the younger generation with knowledge and a sense of responsibility, the Leo Club of the University of Colombo and Leo District 306-C1 are nurturing the roots of a more sustainable future.

As “Lassana Sri Lanka” continues to bloom across the country, this initiative serves as a reminder: real change begins with awareness, and every step taken today brings us closer to a cleaner, greener tomorrow.
