Project Diabcure 7.0: Shaping Hope, Strength, and Support

Project Diabcure 7.0 is a motivating project focused on supporting people suffering from diabetes by forming communities, raising awareness, and increasing access to care. This project aims to help patients overcome their constraints with positive assistance, guidance, and resources through support groups, lifestyle workshops, and programs that require their attendance. Diabcure 7.0 launched its first phase named Hope and Harmony on March 10, 2025, at the Dialysis Unit of Kandy General Hospital and Dr. Thilak Abeysekara Kidney Unit in Hanthana. This landmark event included two powerful modules to support the holistic needs of patients on dialysis. Reserving Strength through Healing Nourishment In an attempt to foster the health of dialysis patients, lots of effort went on the previous day. During the tea break, 270 patients who attended Kandy General Hospital, Dr. Thilak Abeysekara Kidney Unit and Peradeniya Teaching Hospital were provided a meal. The meal served is important as dialysis treatment has the potential to bring about hypoglycemic episodes, and consequently, blood sugar levels need to be controlled as well as the patients’ nutrition needs to be sufficiently met. This made certain that the patients received more than just a comfortable meal, but their meal was attended to with tenderness and love, thanks to the Volunteer Sri Lanka Organization which made their initiative seamless.

Renewing Hope, Doing Good Spreading positivity aids in building and mending the spirit, which is crucial for chronic illness ‘management’. Hence, the second session targeted mental aspect by promoting awareness on emotional strength. The patients who suffer from diabetes and kidney disease attended the seminar, led by a medical officer, aimed to walk them through the reality of living with such diseases. For the audience, patients, this was not only an informative session, but also interactive as they were taught various coping mechanisms and ways to manage stress. In order to boost morale and promote a feeling of togetherness, other members of Leo mingled with patients using music, conversations, and laughter. The encouragement and support from the volunteers infused positivity within the patients and helped them cope with the challenges in their lives.

A Joint Commitment towards a Healthier Future The reason Hope and Harmony was successful can be attributed to the painstaking efforts put in by the committee members, club members, Volunteer Sri Lanka Organization, doctors, and HMO. Their combined efforts made sure that the event was impactful as well as meaningful to the needy. Special appreciation goes to the Club President Leo Damith Kaushalya, and Project Chairperson Leo Sanduni Tharushika for their great devotion and leadership in making this project possible. While supporting Project Diabcure 7.0’s other undertakings, its principal objective remains helping people with diabetes through education, care, and solid support. It is not just a project, but a campaign geared toward making a kinder, more caring, and healthier society where everyone can meet their greatest potential and benefit from appropriate assistance.
