Quarantined New Year

Busy roads filled with heads

People storming down the streets

Tight work schedules

Messy minds

No pausing, no hellos

Life went on with no halt

No smiling, no comments

We didn’t know

Our own existence

Yet, in a split second

The whole world stood still People turned back

They ran in slow motion

We started to understand

Our existence

We started to feel

The reality of it

Corona did take many lives At the same time

Gave meaning to many souls

It taught people

About long lost happy days

It gave people

The long gone caring ways

April bloomed

Under the watch of a decease April reached

To the days of celebration

People huddled together With their own

Like never before Caring, sharing

It’s a disease

Yet offered meaning

It’s a disease

Yet offered love

To those broken hearts

Binding them together

As a family forever

No firecrackers for this avurudu

The animals are safe

No busy streets for this avurudu

The nature is safe

Flowers bloomed

Birds sang

Nature rejoiced &

A different wind

Welcomed us

This New Year

We sat at home

Silently celebrating

Yet with joy

The hearth awoke

Under the silence

Of noisy firecrackers

Under the absence

Of shouting people

This New Year

We embraced family

This New Year

We embraced nature

What a change

A disease can do

As you and I

We became human

Once more

On this New Year
