ප්රාර්ථනා 2020/21
“If we desire peace, we must prepare for peace. The most important thing is to build a culture of peace”
-Anwarul Chowdhury-
Leo Club of University of Colombo organized the project “ ප්රාර්ථනා” to spread love, peace and unity among our community. Mainly this project was built up upon peace, religion, cultural activities and languages. Here we address the Goal 16- “Peace, justice and strong institutions which has been published under United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This project was implemented in three different phases.
Based on our objectives and focusing on collaboration among the religions, the first phase of project “ ප්රාර්ථනා” was successfully completed on the 27th of November 2020. As per our schedule, three teams went to the Sri Angala Parameshwari Amman kovil, Hilur Jumma Masjid Kaluthara, Dharmadutha temple Narahenpita and Kaluaggala Wikshopamatha church. Then we donated equipment according to the requirement of these religious places. Further considering the covid 19 pandemic, we distributed essential goods as well as dry food bags to these religious places. The members of our Leo Club joined in religious observances to save the world from the COVID-19 pandemic that has endangered the whole world.
The second phase of project “ ප්රාර්ථනා” was successfully concluded at Pu/ Ana, Maha Andarawewa Junior School, Anamaduwa on the 18th of December 2020 with the theme of "උගනිමු භාෂා - රැකගමු බැඳියා". Our aim was to help students overcome the language barrier between different languages. Further, we wanted to help the future generation to improve their trilingual language skills. We distributed trilingual workbooks, story books, dictionaries along with a large banner with the trilingual alphabet.
According to our objectives we decided to reach our goals in the third phase with creativity. We launched an online challenge named “Cultural challenge with UOC-Leos” on social media platforms. A large number of people with diverse cultural backgrounds joined hands with us in this challenge by sharing culture and peace related paintings, songs, poems, photographs, dancing items and so on.
When it comes to the second program, we organized an online song reviewing session called "සංකල්පනා"on the 14th of January 2021 from 5.00 p.m. onwards via zoom platform with the honorable presence of the great lyricist, Mr. Bandara Eheliyagoda. We were able to host a very memorable and heartwarming evening to the society by reviewing the meanings of several songs written on peace and reconciliation. We are so glad to announce that we completed that session with more than 60 participants. We believed that we all of the participants had a wonderful experience and a powerful message conveyed through it. An article about the project “ප්රාර්ථනා” was published in “මව්බිම” newspaper on January 22, 2021. With all these accomplishments, we were able to complete all the three phases of the project “ ප්රාර්ථනා” successfully!
We grant our special appreciation to the Leo Club of University of Colombo for the continuous support and guidance provided in order to make this project a success. We also would like to thank everyone else who joined hands with us to make this project a success.
