නිසාගිනි 3.0
The COVID 19 pandemic is an ongoing global pandemic, that impact has been board affecting many areas of human well -being. In particular this was a powerful cause of further to make hunger throughout the world by which will be affected by our food system and its outcome. Therefore many are suffering from hunger because of face of this pandemic .Due to this problem, we the Leos of university of Colombo came up with a better solution to this food crisis. Home gardening is a part of the agriculture and food production system in many developing countries and is widely used as a remedy to alleviate the global food crisis.
Therefore the second phase of “නිසාගිනි 3.0” was named as "සාරධරණි” program carried to empower the home gardening and agriculture to alleviate the food shortage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Simultaneously, the monetary assistance was provided to a farmer who lives in Veyangoda Maa-Ibula village, that did not have sufficient resources to cultivate his barren paddy field.
Also as the next step an online challenge named “සාරධරණි” Let’s grow challenge” was conducted through Social media, by planting food plants in home garden during the week of 07thDecember 2020. During this week many people who are using on social media platforms especially on Facebook and Instagram, were encouraged to plant a food plant and upload a photograph of planting, to their social media accounts and nominate a few friends to do the challenge. More than 80 participants took up this challenge and join hands with us during this week and it went as a trend in social media and many of people gave their feedbacks on comments by appreciating this action.
Furthermore, the COVID19 pandemic negatively effects daily income earners, helpless elders and children. Therefore, we are identified that they cannot afford their essential needs specially, of their food requirements because of lack of income as well as travel restrictions. Thereby the third phase of “නිසාගිනි 3.0” was named as “සොයා සා ගිනි නිවා program carried to quench the hunger of those who suffer the most from hunger. The phase was successfully implemented on the 23rd of December with the contribution of Leo members by providing dry rations to people different areas of country.
With that “නිසාගිනි 3.0” was successfully concluded by giving a solution to address the problem of hunger.
