Kruthaguna 5.0 - First Phase Manudam Mehewara Senior citizens are an integral part of a country. Sri Lanka is one of the fastest-ageing countries in the world. As a developing country, 12.3% of the population is aged 55 or older in Sri Lanka,  making it the country with the highest proportion of older adults in South Asia. Older people signify a more experienced community in a country. With ageing, their health deteriorates physically, psychologically, socially, and spiritually. Older people also contribute in many ways to their families and communities. Senior citizens are a valuable asset, mainly because they are the ones who have gained sound knowledge and also great experiences. But with ageing they lack awareness about their mental, physical and spiritual health. They lack knowledge about their nutritional needs. Most of them live in an extended family with their children and grandchildren. So, there can be many conflicts among them and income problems which highly affect their l

SINDU NALA RAKSHA 6.0 – PHASE I As one of the largest community service organizations in Sri Lanka, Leo Club of University of Colombo has accomplished a huge social service by fulfilling the need of mankind. As the scope of the club is not narrowed only to mankind; Project "Sindu Nala Raksha 6.0" is initiated to 'Be the voice for the voiceless'; innocent and threatened heirs of the earth. So in first phase we decided to focus on one special species; Elephants which are the largest existing land animal on earth. They are currently under a severe threat in Sri Lanka due to human-elephant conflict and continuous unexpected accidents. Hence we thought of planning an assistance program for those who take care about injured and helpless elephants. As a result we could successfully complete the first phase of Sindu Nala Raksha on 22nd of February 2023 as a volunteering program at the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage.  On that particular day a team consisting of 13 club members h

Happiness Ever wondered about the idea of true happiness? A bit too philosophical a question for the sake of everyday life but think about it. Every single aspect of human life shows our need to be happy. Happiness is both the drive and end goal of success. At the end of the day, everyone needs to feel happy. It is at the very core of human existence. All we ever want is to be happy But what does it mean to be happy? The tricky thing about happiness is it does not have an exact shape or texture, no one can quite capture or explain the essence of being happy. Happiness is entirely an internal feeling. The state of being optimistic comes from within. It is the ultimate purpose of human life.  Everyone has their definitions and opinions of happiness. This diversity of opinions makes happiness an interesting concept. In my point of view, happiness is all about freedom, simplicity and acceptance. My most recent happy memory is when I was riding my scooter around the neighbourhood as fast

ALPHABETZ – " Learn Today for Better Tomorrow " As Kofi Annan once said, literacy is the path to human progress and the means by which every man, woman and child can realize his or her full potential. Literacy in the English language has grown to be crucial in today's society. This is due to the fact that the present framework for English and literacy encourages the development of critical and creative thinking as well as the personal, interpersonal, and collaborative skills that are essential in both life and the workplace. As LEOs, we have chosen to resume the path of young children's English learning, which has stagnated as a result of a number of social and economic problems that have previously existed in Sri Lanka. We as the  Leo Club of University of Colombo Leo District 306 C1 , have selected St. Thomas’ College, Kotte for this action, where children with economic difficulties study. In this way we did our third phrase of continuous project series ALPAHBET

Love and Law Throughout the history of mankind, love has played a major role in a common person’s life. From procreation and sexuality to masturbation and adultery to rape and sodomy, the philosophy of Sexuality has played both a conceptual and a normative role in determining one of the most basic and common desires that drive us to do what we do. These are all connected in different ways to the expansive field of human sexuality. They therefore have a connection to both human actions and wants that include the production of new human beings as well as human behaviors and desires that involve the pursuit of sexual pleasure or fulfillment. Because it is an inherent characteristic of humans that particular actions and biological parts can be used for either pleasure or reproduction, or for both. Therefore it is an unarguable fact of life that the law which is made for the reasonable citizen be heavily influenced by the concept of sexuality and love in not just the legal drafting but als

PROJECT NISAGINI 5.0 – PHASE 01   “Better Tomorrow” the first phase of the project NISAGINI 5.0 was an awareness session on “Food Safety and Healthy Life Style”. This was conducted targeting school children with the aim of relieving hunger and malnutrition among different   age group or community. The majority of the participants were not aware of hunger and malnutrition and they were not used to be in a healthy life style. By considering the specific needs and perspectives of different age groups it was identified that the teenagers were   the most suitable age category to raise awareness about hunger and malnutrition, food safety and healthy life style. We believe that such programs are very important for the   future of the country as to be healthy and aware about good healthy practices and encourage them to maintain healthy diet routine.  “Better Tomorrow” was successfully completed at St. Peter’s College, Negombo for grade 8 students with the participation of 260+ students phy
