ALPHABETZ – " Learn Today for Better Tomorrow "
As
Kofi Annan once said, literacy is the path to human progress and the means by
which every man, woman and child can realize his or her full potential.
Literacy
in the English language has grown to be crucial in today's society. This is due
to the fact that the present framework for English and literacy encourages the
development of critical and creative thinking as well as the personal,
interpersonal, and collaborative skills that are essential in both life and the
workplace.
As
LEOs, we have chosen to resume the path of young children's English learning,
which has stagnated as a result of a number of social and economic problems
that have previously existed in Sri Lanka.
We as the Leo Club of University of Colombo Leo District 306 C1, have selected St. Thomas’ College, Kotte for this action, where children with economic difficulties study.
In this way we did our third phrase of continuous project series ALPAHBETZ on 31st January 2023.
We
decided on third, fourth, and fifth graders. Our intention was to provide
knowledge without uniformity. This
workshop did cover the core language facts about the English language that we
should be aware of.
The class was led by our members who were able to keep the
kids' attention by involving them in a number of activities to break up their
boredom.
Mother
Theresa once said “I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot, and
together we can do great things”.
We
therefore engaged in some group activities with them in order to demonstrate
the value of group activities. We held small-group matches to give them that
perspective.
They
learned that wonderful things are possible when there is teamwork and
cooperation, which is the power of unity.
Sometimes
you win, sometimes you lose, but the game always goes on. The most crucial
thing in life, whether you succeed or fail, is to take pleasure in what you
have. So in this workshop also we gave gifts to the winners. Other children
were taught to appreciate their achievement with a pure mind. It is something
that should be taught to the children of today's society.
We
gave out prizes to all the players after the game to demonstrate that everyone
had won.
As
LEOS, being able to finish the third stage of a crucial task for the society
makes us very delighted.
All
our club members who kindly helped us, the principal and teachers in St. Thomas’
College, and all the other people those who had helped us deserve our
gratitude. Our ability to continue on with additional missions without pausing
will be greatly fueled by this strength.
