Alert 8.0 - Phase 02

Weaving Dreams of Joy and Hope in Little Hearts

“Sihina Geththam”, the second phase an inspiring initiative by Leo Club of University of Colombo under Alert 8.0, has been a heartwarming journey filled with love, laughter, and the purest joy. Led by the dedicated Leo Nethmi Amaya, this project has been a beacon of kindness and compassion, creating unforgettable memories and touching lives in the most meaningful way.

The first part of this phase, held on December 27th, 2024, at the Suwa Arana Center of the Indira Cancer Trust in Maharagama, was nothing short of magical. We came together to celebrate Christmas with children who are facing battles beyond their years. This special Christmas program not only brought warmth and cheer to their hearts but also provided them with stationary for their mental well-being and hygiene kits for their parents.

We were honored to have Leo Lion Ravindi Hettiarachchi PFLM and Club President Leo Damith Kaushalya on this special occasion. Their presence and support added to the beauty of the day, making it even more memorable.

As we worked alongside these brave little souls, crafting colorful stars and balls out of A4 sheets, we saw the joy and excitement in their eyes. Their enthusiasm was contagious as we decorated a beautiful Christmas tree together. The day became even more delightful when our Santa Claus arrived, spreading joy, dancing to the song “Pulun wage sudu rawula digai,” and distributing the gifts we had brought. The children and their parents received them with such gratitude, filling the air with love and happiness. It was a day that exceeded our expectations, proving that small acts of kindness can make a world of difference.

The second part of this phase, held on January 31st, 2025, took our hearts to the Maharagama Apeksha Hospital, where we had the privilege of donating 200 essential items to children undergoing treatment. We were joined by Lion representative from Lions Club of Oruwala, the Club President Leo Damith Kaushalya, the Vice President Leo Pabasara Jayasinghe, whose presence strengthened our efforts to bring hope and support to these little warriors. As we handed over the items to the children and their parents in the hospital’s children's wards, their smiles were enough to melt our hearts. Their gratitude and joy reminded us of the power of love and compassion.

Seeing those children smile, even amidst their struggles, was a reminder of the profound impact that simple gestures of kindness can have. It was a privilege to bring a little light into their lives and to know that, even for a moment, we had made them forget their pain and experience pure joy.

"Sihina Geththam" has been a journey of selfless giving and deep emotional connection. It has shown us that in a world filled with hardships, kindness and love have the power to heal, uplift, and bring people together. We are incredibly fortunate to be part of this precious project, and we carry the smiles and laughter of these children in our hearts as we continue this journey of spreading hope, one act of love at a time.
