  Alert 9.0 is a humanitarian initiative introduced by Leo Club of University of Colombo with the profound objective of supporting children who are affected by cancer. Designed as a comprehensive three-phase mission, the project addresses different facets of the battle against childhood cancer, from public education to direct patient care. As of now, the club has successfully completed the first two phases of this journey. The first phase, “Sihina Piyapath,” laid the foundation by focusing on the power of information through a nationwide awareness campaign. Building upon this, the second phase , titled “ Senehase Datha ,” shifted the focus entirely to the power of care, moving from advocacy to action to address the tangible physical and emotional needs of the children.   Thirasara Anagathayak Udesa….. Phase 02-Eco Pulse The second phase of “Bright Drop” project of   “Leo club of University of Colombo”, “Eco Pulse” was held with great success on “24 th January 2026” at “AM/Madawalalanda Maha Vdyalaya” from 9.00 am. In this phase, we hoped to raise awareness among students based on the theme of conserving clean water and hydropower.   දිරිය ප්‍රණාම – Phase 01 With the hope of making a real difference in lives of children who can’t move independently, our team hosted a special community outreach event ‘ Diriya Pranama ’   We successfully completed our first phase – ‘Senehase Athwala’ on 12 th January at Sri Sudarmalaya Buddhist Temple, in Galle from 10.30 a.m onwards. Occasion began with blessings of reverted monk of the temple. As a team we donated  wheelchairs for children who need support to move and embrace life move freely. Members of our project found these children by gathering information of the area. For further enrichment the day featured with entertainment event,lasting memories for children and their families.   Project Saubagya – Phase 1: Saara Bhoomi “ Reviving a flood-damaged land and restoring a family’s path to prosperity” Project සෞභාග්‍යය   marked a meaningful beginning with the successful completion of its first phase, “ සාරභූමි ,” carried out on 13th January 2026 in Anuradhapura. This phase focused on restoring a corn cultivation that had been severely damaged by massive floods and the Dithva storm, with the aim of supporting one affected farming family to rebuild their primary source of income and food security. For this family, the corn field was more than land. It was the foundation of their livelihood and daily sustenance. In Sri Lanka, the impact of the adverse effects of the Dithva storm experienced in December 2025. In the farming areas around the nation, the rainstorm flooded various farming regions.   Project Sobadhara – Phase 02 By Leo Club of University of Colombo January 18, 2026   Project Sobadhara Jeewaya Dena Mihithalayata Adarayen Phase 02 Ahinsa   Leo Club of University of Colombo successfully carried out Phase 02 of Project Sobadhara , titled “ Ahinsa ”, on 18th January 2026 at Kurunegala, commencing at 9.00 a.m. This phase focused on improving the wellbeing of stray and abandoned dogs through medical care, shelter support, and awareness on responsible animal welfare practices. This meaningful initiative was designed to protect vulnerable dogs while encouraging compassion, responsibility, and sustainable solutions for stray dog management within the community.   Why We Chose This Project Stray dogs are exposed to numerous risks, including diseases, lack of shelter, malnutrition, and neglect.   Eyes of Hope Eyes of Hope was born from the heart. It began with a quiet realization that sight is not something everyone is blessed with, yet hope is something we can all give. Categorized under the Best Project for Vision, this initiative grew from empathy, responsibility, and a deep desire to serve with purpose. The first phase, “ දෑසේ පැතුම” was more than a project phase. It was a moment where intention turned into action. Chairing this project under the Leo Club of the University of Colombo, I felt not like a leader standing above, but a learner standing among humanity witnessing how small acts of kindness can create lasting light.
