 Miles of Smiles 2nd Phase O n 21st December, the Leo Club of the University of Colombo proudly established a fully functioning library with a formal library management system by completing “Grantha Manoroma,” the second phase of the project Miles of Smiles 7.0, at Weerakatiya, Keppitiyawa Purana Mahavihara. The main objective of this initiative was to collect books that people had read once or twice and kept unused, and to transform them into a sustainable and well-managed library for children who lack access to proper library facilities. In addition to second-hand books, a significant number of new books were also purchased. Through this effort, an open library was established around the Weerakatiya, Keppitiyawa Temple, applying principles of library science, with the long-term aim of developing children’s reading habits and promoting education within the community.     Project Sobadhara – Phase 01 By LEO Club of University of Colombo December 18 , 2025 Project Sobadhara Jeewaya Dena Mihithalayata Adarayen Phase 01 Mihirali The Leo Club of University of Colombo successfully conducted phase 01 Mihirali of its environmental conservation project “ Sobadhara ” at Hikkaduwa beach on 18 th December, 2025. This phase marked the environmental awareness and sustainability. Due to pollution and improper waste disposal Sri Lanka’s costal environment has faced to a serious threat. Hikkaduwa beach is recognized for its rich marine diversity, especially sea turtles and need proper care and protection. The area we chose is close to a harbor, so the damage to the sea was high, which was also a reason for us to choose that area.   Project Bright Drop – Illuminating Lives with Clean Water and Light 1 st Phase – “Aqua Light” On December 13 th , the first phase of the “Bright Drop Project – Aqua Light” was successfully launched, marking a meaningful step toward community empowerment through access to clean water and sustainable lighting. This phase was proudly implemented at the Habarana District Hospital, selected as the inaugural beneficiary of the project. In this phase we designed to address two essential needs of everyday life: safe drinking water and reliable light. Alert 9.O

    Alert 9.0 is a humanitarian initiative introduced by Leo Club of the University of Colombo with the objective of supporting children who are affected by cancer. The first phase of the project, titled “ Sihina Piyapath” , was successfully completed by 14th December 2025 with the aim of creating accessible and impactful awareness on cancer, with special emphasis on childhood cancers. This phase focused on educating society, encouraging early understanding, and fostering empathy through meaningful engagement. The first segment of Sihina Piyapath was an educational podcast held at Apeksha Hospital on 9th October 2025, featuring Consultant Paediatric Oncologist Dr. Mahendra Somathilaka. The discussion highlighted common childhood cancers, their causes, early symptoms, and treatment options in a clear and simplified manner.
