  Project සුවධරණී   The first phase of our community health initiative, Project Suwadarani was successfully completed on 20th November 2025. Our aim in this phase was to raise awareness about diabetes and encourage early prevention among the community. We selected the Boralasgamuwa Municipal Council as our location because many people visit the premises early in the morning and often do not have time to think about their health. Through discussions with the Chairman and based on previous tests carried out by the MOH office, we learned that a significant number of individuals in the area had tested positive for diabetes. This highlighted the need for immediate awareness and education. Our main objective was to educate the community about diabetes, its risks, symptoms, and the importance of early prevention.  Project ආරක්ෂා   Bus Repair Project: Phase 02 Leo Club of the University of Colombo proudly celebrates the successful completion of Phase two of our six-phase community service project. This meaningful initiative aims to support the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) by collecting funds and providing volunteer assistance to repair broken-down buses, helping strengthen Sri Lanka’s public transport system and ensure the safety of passengers across the country. Why We Chose This Project This project was inspired by our deep concern for passenger safety. In recent months, Sri Lanka has witnessed several tragic bus accidents, including the Alla-Wellawaya bus accident, which highlighted the urgent need for better maintenance and safety in public transportation.   Safe Steps Project                               "දැනුම්වත් හෙටක්"   On the 22nd of November 2025, from 2.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. Leo Club of University of Colombo successfully completed the first phase of the Safe Step Project "දැනුම්වත් හෙටක්" at Handford Estate, Deniyaya. Staying true to our mission of safeguarding communities, this phase focused on crime and accident prevention, especially for most of Tamil families living in remote and challenging conditions. Many of these community members have limited awareness about crime, legal protection, and the steps to take when they become victims of the crimes.                   විසඳමු 2025 – 1st Phase       LEXQUEST 2025 – School Debate Tournament The Leo Club of the University of Colombo proudly and successfully completed the first phase of our flagship project “විසඳමු 2025” with the school debate tournament “LEXQUEST 2025.” This year’s competition marked another meaningful step in our mission to promote legal literacy, critical thinking, and leadership among school students. Day 01 Preliminary rounds and Semifinals were held on 15th November 2025, the first day commenced at 10.00 AM, bringing together young debaters from across Colombo. We initially invited 10 leading schools and finalized participation from 8 schools. However, on the morning of the tournament, one school informed us of their inability to attend, bringing the number down to 7 teams. Happy Hearts  A celebration of joy & inclusion On the 5 th of October 2025 the Leo Club of University of Colombo organized a heartfelt Children’s Day project titled ‘Happy Hearts’ at WP/K/Sri Chandrasekara Special school, Horethuduwa, Moratuwa. The event which began at 10;30 AM, was planned with immense love and care to bring smiles and happiness to the wonderful children of the school. With the spirit of service at its core, this project was not only a celebration of Children’s Day but also a powerful reminder of how small acts of kindness can create meaningful impact in the lives of others.                  ආශිර්වාද පූජා'25 Every religion holds the truth, just as every heart holds faith    Leo club of University of Colombo successfully completed the First Project of Leoistic Year 2025/26. “Ashirwada Pooja ‘25”, a multi-faith blessing ceremony held on 05th and 09th July 2025 to welcome the new Leoistic Year 2025/26 with hopes for peace, unity, and prosperity. As the part of this project, we visited four religious places. On 05th of July we visited Mayurapathy Sri BathraKali Amman Kovil, Wellawatta, St. Mary’s Church, Bambalapitiya, and Jumma Mosque, Wellawatta. On 09th of July we visited the Dalada Maligawa, Kandy.  Leo Blaze’25 – Phase 2 - Vires Nova: A New Strength Through Sports Leo Blaze’25 continued its powerful journey of youth empowerment through sports with the launch of its second phase, titled “Vires Nova”, meaning “new strength.” Following the success of Phase 1, “Hand to Hand,” which focused on providing sports equipment and fitness training to underprivileged schoolchildren, Phase 2 turned the spotlight toward inter-university competition to celebrate skill, sportsmanship, and unity among Sri Lankan youth. The first part of Phase 2 was held on April 29, 2025, at the University of Colombo premises, where the Leo Blaze’25 Invitational Inter-University Volleyball Trophy took place. Teams from six leading universities joined the tournament: University of Colombo, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, SLITT, SLTC, KIU Sri Lanka, and University of Moratuwa.   Project Suwasara – Nourishing Health, Empowering Communities.   Continuing the impactful journey of Arogya 7.0, Project Suwasara was successfully carried out on the 28th of April 2025 at the Gangabada Community Hall in Paliyagoda. With a focused mission to uplift public health standards, this initiative targeted vulnerable communities residing in slums and line houses. The project tackled pressing concerns such as food safety, maternal and child nutrition, and overall health awareness. It was designed not just to provide knowledge, but to empower families with the tools and habits needed to build healthier futures. The day’s proceedings began with a welcome speech from the project chairperson, emphasizing the importance of safe food practices and nutritious eating.
