Project සුවධරණී - Phase 01

  Project සුවධරණී

The first phase of our community health initiative, Project Suwadarani was successfully completed on 20th November 2025. Our aim in this phase was to raise awareness about diabetes and encourage early prevention among the community. We selected the Boralasgamuwa Municipal Council as our location because many people visit the premises early in the morning and often do not have time to think about their health. Through discussions with the Chairman and based on previous tests carried out by the MOH office, we learned that a significant number of individuals in the area had tested positive for diabetes. This highlighted the need for immediate awareness and education.

Our main objective was to educate the community about diabetes, its risks, symptoms, and the importance of early prevention. We wanted to help people understand how small lifestyle changes can reduce their chances of developing diabetes in the future. The awareness session was held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the project day. We were honored to have Dr. Ravindran, a lecturer from the University of Jayewardenepura as our resource person. His insightful explanations and practical advice helped the participants understand diabetes in a simple and meaningful way.

To make the session more valuable, we also distributed an informative leaflet booklet that included essential details about diabetes, its causes, symptoms, and prevention tips. This allowed participants to take the information home and share it with their families. We also provided refreshments to everyone who attended, creating a friendly and supportive environment that encouraged participation and discussion.

The success of the first phase of Suwadarani Project has motivated us to continue our efforts in improving community health. We look forward to implementing the next phases with the same enthusiasm and commitment.
