Sasiri Hetak - Phase 05

“Empowering young minds transforms the future”

On January 15th, 2025, Leo Club of University of Colombo proudly completed the fifth phase of the "Sasiri Hetak" school renovation project at Halloluwa Primary School, Katugastota. Building on our previous successes, this phase focused on transforming the Grade 4 classroom into an inspiring and welcoming learning space.

Our work began with rebuilding damaged walls, followed by painting the entire room to create a bright and cheerful atmosphere. We also refurbished desks and chairs to ensure the students had comfortable and functional furniture. The cool breeze of Kandy city and the rich heritage of the surroundings provided the perfect backdrop as we worked tirelessly over three days to bring this vision to life.

Club members arrived early, filled with enthusiasm and determination. As we tackled each task, from repairs to painting, we strengthened our bond as a team, sharing laughs and stories along the way. The experience of working together in such a meaningful way reminded us of the true essence of our mission to uplift and inspire. The evenings offered a chance to unwind and soak in the beauty of Kandy, adding a layer of cultural enrichment to our journey. The culmination of our efforts came during the official handover ceremony. The newly refurbished classroom was unveiled in the presence of the school community, who warmly welcomed us with heartfelt gratitude. The smiles of the students and the appreciation from the teachers were deeply rewarding. To add to the celebration, our members performed a vibrant dance, filling the day with joy and festivity.

Reflecting on this phase, we are overwhelmed with a sense of accomplishment. Our collective hard work not only transformed a classroom but also made a lasting impact on the students and teachers. This initiative has strengthened our commitment to creating better learning environments and fostering hope for future generations. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the principal, teachers, students, the local community, our Leo Club president, vice presidents, and every member of Leo Club of University of Colombo for their unwavering support and dedication throughout this journey. Though the road was challenging, the smiles and gratitude we received reaffirmed that every effort was worthwhile.
