 "Eco Vision Case Study Competition: Empowering Young Minds for Energy Conservation"


The Eco Vision Case Study Competition, held under Phase 03 of One Drop 7.0, was successfully conducted at the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo, inspiring young minds to take an active role in energy conservation and sustainable innovation. The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp, followed by a welcome speech from Project Chairperson, Leo Dhananji Umayangika. The competition was graced by esteemed guests, including Mr. Ruchira Adhikari, Assistant Lecturer and Research Assistant at the Department of Sociology, University of Colombo, Leo Nisal Dulmith, FLM District Vice President of Leo District 306 C1, and Leo Damith Kaushalya, President of the Leo Club of University of Colombo. The event was skilfully hosted by Leo Nethmi Kaveesha, setting the stage for an engaging and insightful competition.


With excitement in the air, the competition began, bringing forward a series of compelling presentations on AI for Smart Energy Use, Bringing Clean Energy to Rural Areas, Turning Waste into Energy, Greener Transportation, and Sustainable Energy Management in Universities. Each team brought their ideas to life through detailed research, real-world examples, and multimedia presentations, making the session both informative and thought-provoking. As the participants confidently delivered their insights, the Q&A sessions turned into dynamic discussions, with the judge challenging teams to think deeper and refine their solutions. The energy in the room was electric, as both competitors and the audience were immersed in the thought-provoking exchanges.


After an intense round of presentations, the judges carefully assessed each team’s performance. The competition reached its peak when Team Green Spark was declared the winner for their outstanding case study on Sustainable Energy Management in Universities, which demonstrated both feasibility and innovation. Their approach to integrating smart energy systems within academic institutions impressed the judges. Closely following them, Team Innovate and Next Gen Creators secured the first and second runner-up positions, respectively, with their well-researched and forward-thinking ideas.


Following the announcement, Mr. Ruchira Adhikari commended the participants for their dedication and insightful contributions, emphasizing the importance of youth-led innovation in tackling pressing energy issues. He encouraged everyone to keep innovating and transforming their ideas into real-world solutions, reinforcing the impact that young minds can have in shaping a more sustainable future.


The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Leo Devonz Wijethilaka, followed by the presentation of tokens of appreciation to the esteemed guests. Participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity, highlighting how the competition expanded their knowledge, refined their skills, and strengthened their commitment to energy conservation. The Eco Vision Case Study Competition was more than just a contest—it was a platform for future leaders to develop real-world solutions, inspire change, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
