ALPHABETZ (Phase 04) – "Learn Today for a Better Tomorrow"
Kofi Annan says knowledge is power and information is liberating. Information is the premise of progress in every society and in every family.
Speaking of knowledge, English knowledge is an indispensable tool for today's world. This is primarily because the present framework for English and literacy promotes the growth of critical and creative thinking as well as the interpersonal, collaborative, and personal skills that are crucial in both personal and professional environments.
Due to some social and economic problems that have arisen in Sri Lanka in the past, the opportunities for children with economic difficulties to develop such language skills are very low.
As social activists, we at LEO are ready to find as many solutions as possible to such problems.
We as the Leo Club of University of Colombo, have selected G/Halpatota Roman Catholic Junior School, Baddegama for this action, where children with economic difficulties find it very difficult to study.
In this way, we started our continuous project series ALPAHBETZ and we completed our 4th step on 24th February 2023.Students in three, four, and five grades were our selections. We wanted to do this workshop in such a way that the children did not feel monotonous. The fundamental linguistic information regarding the English language that we should be aware of has been presented in this workshop.
Our members who led the workshop were successful in keeping the kids' attention by involving them in a variety of activities to break up their boredom.
As Henri Ford said, coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is the key to success. Hence, we participated in some group activities with them to show them the advantages of group activities. By hosting small-group events, we provided them with that experience.
They came to understand that the strength of unity—teamwork and cooperation—made beautiful things possible.Every win, every loss, every tie, every shutout, no matter what, it all counts. The most crucial thing in life, whether you succeed or fail, is to take pleasure in what you have. As a result, we also provided awards to the session's winners. Other children were told to respect their accomplishments with an open mind. Modern society's youth need to be educated in it.
We offered gifts to everyone as a sign that everyone had won at the end of the game.
In carrying out the important goal of society, we at LEOS are delighted to have completed this critical stage.
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all of our club members who kindly assisted us, the principal and teachers of Halpatota Roman Catholic Junior School, and all other supporters. We shall be greatly inspired to do further missions without stopping here by this strength.
