Project Manusath Viyamana Phase 01
"There must be a better way to make the things we want, a way that doesn’t spoil the sky, or the rain or the land.” - Paul McCartney.
Sustainable Development Goals are currently the center of attention for the entire world. In Sri Lanka, numerous initiatives are being carried out to meet sustainable development targets by 2030.
The project "Manusath Viyamana 23 initiative" was developed by the Leo Club of the University of Colombo as a further step toward accomplishing sustainable development objectives. The Sustainable Development Goals are directly relevant to the Manusath Wiyamana initiative. The primary goal of this project is to lay the groundwork needed to improve the standard of living for those living in the rural districts of Sri Lanka. This undertaking was carried out in three stages.
Good sanitary conditions are one of the most important basic needs that must be fulfilled by all humans. A survey done in 2013 found that more than 1 million kids (or 25% of all students) lacked access to basic sanitation. We made an effort to protect the sanitation and mental health of kids in rural schools during the first phase of the Manusath Wiyamana initiative. The first phase was initiated at the Ape Lamai Special School on March 24, 2023, from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm. We were able to set up a restroom with all the amenities during the project and plan a modest event for the students of the Ape Lamai Special School. For a long time to come, the fifty-six children and staff of our children's special school will be able to carry out their sanitation activities in a safe and healthy manner.
We all have a responsibility to provide the environment that special needs children need to live autonomously in the community. We saw that there are numerous issues that the kids encounter as a result of the school's inadequate restroom setup and their ignorance of basic toilet usage. Their troubled past was ended by us. The Manusath Wiyamana Project allowed us to put an end to their troubled past. We desired to put a smile on the faces of the students at Ape Lamai Special School. In order to have fun with them, we planned a modest event. Our efforts were successful, as seen by the kids' smiles.
The main funding source for the project comes from the generous support of our sponsors. We would like to express our gratitude to Mr. Vicknashwaran, General Manager of East-West Transportation And Pvt. Ltd., and R4R Printing Shop for providing us with silver partnerships; Mr. Vijitha Gunathilakage, Regional Manager of Ceylinco General Insurance Limited, for providing us with gold partnerships; and, last but not least, Mrs. Harshini Ambagaspitiya, Marketing Manager of Noritake Lanka Porcelain Pvt Ltd, for supporting us as the Gift Partner. This phase was a huge success because of their contribution.
Therefore, the SDG team, chairperson Leo Damoji Wijesuriya, co-chairperson Leo Chamara Peramuna, Secretary Leo Ridmi Senarath, Treasurer Leo Oneli Chandrasoma, and Co-Secretaries Leo Amali Prabodani and Sithusha Sathsarani are declaring the indictment of the first phase with the hope of your support on the upcoming phases of Manusath Wiyamana 23. Our adventure doesn't end here. Keep an eye out for Manusath Wiyamana 23's upcoming more incredible phases. Let's work together to guarantee that everyone has a sustainable future.
Leo Damoji Wijesuriya
